About French innovation, which seems to be a motivation of the aquisition and hopefully the restart, it’s funny because… The Omega started its public adventure when the Osmose had finally entered a regular sales phase. In fact, I wasn’t among the first Omega backers because I had just bought the Osmose and it wasn’t cheap.
Two years later and after having gone through very different paths, Expressive E unveils the 61 version and short after we get news that gives us some post-Aodyo hope. Not that I think both companies, teams, projects have a connection in this story, neither I would romantizise a Lille-Marseille North-South tale of two cities. This post is just a way to pass time while more specific news arrive.
The true story is though that I might consider getting an innovative French music device next year, and there might be several candidates by the end of Superbooth. Meanwhile, I keep saving and enjoying what I have.
And perhaps that was a (big?) part of the problem, that they committed to more than what they could chew on with the team, timeline, and resources they had.
Being French myself and a backer of the Omega, I’m really enjoying seeing all those new companies innovating from there. I also backed the Omega partly for that exact reason (thought, designed and made in France).
Oh yay, I hope something comes of this. If I recall correctly, the Omega had 4 external audio inputs? This was the feature that grabbed me the most (substantial integration with modular/hardware/tape-concrete style setups).
The update for the Loom on KS made today mentions the associated progress on the touch strip ribbons for the Omegas with the development of the Looms :
Moreover, the ribbon board providing 2 octaves will be ready for later integration in the Omega desktop (a new 4 octaves variation will be necessary for the Omega keyboard version).
Also of note is the dedication from Inodesign to giving just recognition to the financial contributions made by backers.
