Anybody excited for Red Dead Redemption 2?!

Just curious if any other Elektonauts will be playing the upcoming video game “Red Dead Redemption 2” in downtime from making music? It looks absolutely stunning from the graphics to the gameplay. Seems Rockstar Games has some really amazing tech working under the hood to provide a deeply immersive experience. This will most likely set a new standard for what open world games are capable of. Here’s a link to an article I read online about some of the a.i / animation / gameplay features that set this game apart from the rest.

Yes, someone should make a Red Dead Redemption 2 samples beat challenge once we all get a hand on the game.

Should be a wealth of samples within this game. I’ve heard the amount of spoken dialogue is an insane amount, 500,000 lines supposedly. Music will be on point I’m sure.

Yeah man. Pre ordered the physical copy last week. Taking Friday off work, and am locking myself away. Ps4 ftw

but do they grow in warm weather?

Red Dead Redemption was/is my favorite gaming experience ever. I’m so excited I could pee!
I’m also looking forward to the music in it, as the music in the first one was game changing. I had never played a game that succeeded so well at an amorphous, ambient soundtrack.
It’s going to be a good winter…

I’ll never forget crossing the Mexican border and hearing that Jose Gonzalez song. <3

I work in the video game industry. (My company will be the big console partner for this title). It honestly might be the biggest and best game of this console generation. expectations are huge. No doubt it will be very, very good given T2’s reputation.

I felt the need to share this Animal Collective song. It was originally recorded in 2010 for the first Red Dead Redemption but never got used.

It’s kinda funky and prominently features the Monomachine.

Yeah I’ve pretty much wiped my November calendar in anticipation. Bring it on.

I’m 90% sure that most of this song is a bar of 6 + a bar of 7…So a bar of 13 if you want to look at it like that. It’s hard to tell in the beginning but when the last hoorah is happening it seems more obvious to me. Though I think some of the earlier parts are just straight in 6.

How the hell do you program that on a MnM? It’s hard enough programming a bar of 3 without getting lost. Though an easy workaround is just using one page and making use of multiple patterns.

Anyway thanks. I forgot this track existed and I definitely glossed over it before. Now I’m hearing it with fresh MnM ears!

I read it’s about 100gig download , I guess once you have to deal with 4K cinematics ( assuming they’re not upscaling and filtering ) then downloads go up very quickly. The stuff I worked on was quite tricky to fit in one dvd and those were big games.

I doubt I’ll play it , haven’t plugged my Xbox in for years , PS4 goes on a few times a year.
The tech looks good , I hope the dev team get the support they need to get over the reported crunch , weekends and impact in life , I certainly know how that kicks you where it’s painful. They’ve probably been working on dlc for months already.

Expect a big day1 patch , I’m sure it’ll be good.

Yeah I am counting 13 for the most part but it gets kinda hard for me to count at times.

As far as programming, that is a great question! I would guess that they are probably shorter one page patterns manually switched and/or in combination with some track muting. From what I know of Animal Collective they are not big on programming full song structures but prefer to “play” manually to keep that looser feel.

Glad you enjoyed the throwback! I am also hearing it after a while with a more well developed MnM ear. Interesting to listen again with this perspective. Avey Tare’s solo album Down There also has a heck of a lot of MnM. This song was originally one of his songs from that era that didn’t make it on the record but was played live during the tour.

Oh yes I’m well aware  Down There and Sophie’s first record are what convinced me that MnM was the box I need.

I need to stop buying synths to get a ps4

I just got Dark Souls on Switch (Praise the Sun!) so will be focusing on that for a couple of weeks before jumping in on RDR2. Never really play my PS4 any more but this seems like a decent excuse to turn it on again!

Not too hard to do it by setting up patterns of different length, either chained or arranged in song mode. It might mess with your understanding of where the “one” is and in which pattern I guess. You can live record into a pattern chain / song loop though.

So e.g. you could use four patterns of 16, 8, 16, and 12 steps and chain/loop those. If you have a song structure mapped out where you have bars of differing length it’s just a case of setting the appropriate patterns/number of loops in song mode.

Either that or they sequenced it externally, or edited a recording to length.

Edit: listened to it and it’s also possible that they’re using the arp as well (especially on that BBOX track), which can effectively run at a different scale length to the underlying pattern.

I hope it comes to PC!
