Analog Rytm OS 1.70 Upgrade

Thanks! (I don’t intend to use the sampling feature so much right now because the synthesis is so complex and rewarding - but you never know  )

Hi. I can indeed use other samplers to trim samples. The increased resolution is (to me at least) nessecary for P-locking the startpoint of long samples. Also the LFO (most likely) will react differently if mapped to startpoint in OS 1.70 as there are more points to grab. Not sure. But thanks for the suggestion

Well, horses for courses, I guess. To me the AR is a complex analog drum machine that can include samples. But it is no sampler. Even if you could use it like this. But then you may get frustrated or disappointed. It really really shines in dub techno. Pure Basic Channel, Chain reaction stuff. Compared to the other Elektron machines, delay and reverb are different and not so versatile and I miss more than one LFO per sound but in it’s field it cannot be beaten.

The Syntakt can a lot which I would love here (like a second bandpass filter after first filter) but that would change the sound because of so much more options.

Restrictions help getting things done creative-wise.

It is actually working just like tracker arpeggios, and to some extent it can do a bit more in that area. The “047” you are referring to would be (for instance) Protracker effect command 0 (=arp), then the offset +4 and +7, which would arpeggiate root note, root note+4, root note+7 over and over - creating a major chord. In SY CHIP, the root note is always the TRIG note, so setting OF2 to +4 and OF3 to +7 will do just that. The remaining OF4 can also be used to get a four note chord (not possible in Protracker) but if set to 0 it will start over from the root. That goes for all the OF’s so if you set OF3 to 0 it will play a two note arp, OF2 to 0 will not play an arp at all (only the root note).

A minor chord in a tracker would be “037”, so that means - set OF2 to +3, OF3 to +7, OF4 to 0.

And if you want more details there is a comprehensive guide on YouTube

hey Thomas, hope you can address a quick question I have regarding the offsets, is there any way the arp can play on the offsets set on 0 instead of resetting the arp?
for example, if I make a bass arp and I want to have C2 root note and build an arp like: ROOT/OF2-12/OF3-ROOT/OF4+12, so I’ll have the root note twice in the arp?
I know that I can just make it with two trigs and p-lock the OF2 on the second trig, but I was wondering maybe there is a way to play the root note on the offsets anyway?
thanks!

Thanks  Will read and understand. Yep, I mixed up the numbers  That the first note is always root and does not need to be set with 0 was the important hint. (And that zero is the command, not the root note, too :flushed::rofl:). Just described my experiences with hands on see what happens approach. Would have referred to the manual later. Exploring the unknown approach is great and rewarding and on the way there are so many happy accidents :blush::grin:

With the page looping, now you can program a sequence while playing the other part of the sequence in tr style!

Ye I´ve experienced the same problem. Very nasty glitches in conjunction with overbridge.

Not out of the box, but if you have the LFO available you can trick it: Set a square wave with depth just above 0 (0.01 etc) and the dest to OF3. It will then hover around 0 without hitting it.

Otherwise I would set OF3 &4 to one semi higher, and then P-lock TUNE to one semi below.

thanks for the response! I’ve already figured two step arps with p-lock on OF2 for the second trig, your suggestion of the lfo is something I will definitely try as well!

ME TOO.
I would love to use Euclidean sequencing as I’ve been on and off about getting a Torso T-1 for a while now, but I couldn’t justify it with how flexible Elektron sequencers are as is.

That’s sick! I love sequencer tricks like that or “step jump” on some machines.

Testing the resample feature for saving that great sounds for use in other machines. The playback from the direct sampling screen is ridiculously loud compared to the rest. When I load the saved sample into a slot, everything is fine. I searched the manual and the net. Found only complaints of the input being sort of low. Were can I set the relative volume of the direct pages? Thanks a bunch :grinning:

Edit: found it uses the sample play settings of the respective track. That might be useful. Is there a way to preview it neutrally or do I have to make a neutral instrument for that purpose?

What are you even talking about?

Horses and courses  Ask ChatGPT? I want to express that it will in most cases lead to frustration if one wants to use a tool for something it wasn’t designed to do just because it could, in theory, do the job. And especially not if there are plenty of specialized tools on the box (for the tasks you wanted the AR do perform). Per design and right now, IMHO, the AR is a sophisticated analog drum machine with sampling capabilities, not a sampler. And it’s not designed to chop rhythmic samples although you could do it per modulation of start points, p-lock.

Short: if you have Polyend Tracker and S950 - why do you want the AR to replace those if they are specialized in what you seek and they are at hand.

(Edited for off topic reasons)

Cheers!

That‘s a great idea! Thanks

They even got rid of the startup click - would have never thought

I still have that click, although it never bothered me…

As long as the clicks can be sent through the delay everything is fine:

Can’t wait to try this update! Another hour left until calibration is complete.

The page loop feature is something I have been wishing for a long long time on all of my Elektron devices (DT, ST, A4, and Rytm). In fact a big reason why I bought an Oxi One sequencer was the ability to set start and end loop points. What’s neat about the Rytm looping is you can skip pages! (eg. loop page 1 and 3 only) And only loop specific tracks!

Am I mistaken or is the Rytm the only Elektron device that has this page loop capability?
