Exact same for me. See above.
the 808/909 Analog Kits are my default state of operation.
the only Samples are Vintage DrumKits (707,ddm210,KR55,linndrum,etc) and recordings/samples/resamples
DRUMS
My friend’s mk1 also got stuck here…
Interesting. Im on a mk2 though.
Sweet. I really like what they did with the roll function
Is it easier to tune the kick to a certain note now with the new upgrade?
I haven’t tried, but it was indeed difficult before this update. I hope the new tuning improvements can help on this regard.
can anyone with a rytm and the new update confirm :)?
Yeah, 12 tracks ofc, but hey, still very noice! I never really use euclidian stuff, maybe for multitap delays (there’s a sort of Rainmaker inspired multi tap delay for VCV Rack which has an euclidian expander to generate and shift around the active taps), or maybe for some background percussion. But sometimes it’s just nice to trigger all kinds of different modules and then remove all the crap and maybe be left with some really crazy background texture.
Loving the update, everything sounds more pristine and the new drum models hit hard. The only criticism I have so far is that it’s almost impossible to see which pattern is active when the led intensity is set to mid as all leds glow with pretty much the same intensity… bummer.
If you create rather long bass lines, there won’t be much things you can put on 4. something like that would be more flexible:
1: bass, 2: kick, 3: snare, 4: rimshot/clap/noise/sy chip or else
but of course there’s no right or wrong!
tuning is on point! tested with almost with every machine and Live tuner and it’s almost dead center on every semitone when pitching from trig note or machine TUN, didn’t test super deep or super high notes but the regular range seems on point and the TUN have a fine tuning now, but every integer corresponds with a semitone.
btw it seems that on note 0-C3 and TUN on 0 (top center) the machines are on C note which is real handy, you can pitch from the trig notes which are marked now with the semitone, so if you go F2 you’ll be on F, then from TUN you can go ±12 for octave up/down
Great. Integers -> perfect semitones was the logical thing to do.
Yes, you are absolutely right and I feel a bit dumb now that I never thought of that :). That is better ofc in some cases!.
You can get very clean hats with HH Lab, just have to get the oscillators right. It can also get metallic, resonant, or noisy. Haven’t tried FMing it, yet, but with FM, filter FM or AM there’s so much potential for different timbres.
A bit of audio rate square wave on amp vol usually works really well, have to try that.
Compared to 909s and many other hats, the AR hats are quite high in the spectrum. That’s probably the reason we often perceive them as “weak”, but it’s also why they work so well for layering. Some hats go down into the 400-500 hz range, some even into 300 hz. If you let a sample fill the mid range and let the AR do the top end sizzle, you can get some really nice hi hats.
HH Lab still has the tendency to “break up” into noisy sizzle with longer decay times, but if you get the oscillators right, it works quite well.
I reckon we could draw some inspiration for the oscillator tunings from Synth Secrets and other ressources on vintage drum machine synthesis.
bass line 1 on 3, bass line 2 on 4 works great too! (to switch lines and get more variations with just one pattern!). I did create many times a bass line on 3 just to realize I couldn’t use 4 haha. so I’m just sharing my experience ![]()
the “lab” machines are maybe evolving on other tracks soon, it follows an open structure of the components available
I like to use kick on track 1, a pad sound on track 2 (track 2 has all the synth machine options and won’t get cut off by any other track, so it’s great for long sustained notes), bassline on track 3 and either some short percussive hits inbetween some of the notes on track 4 (often it’s a variation of the sound in track 3) or a variation of the original bassline.
Sometimes I make use of the choking for the variation and play both tracks together, sometimes I switch from track 3 to track 4.
Keep in mind that spillover can happen on the choke groups, so a bit from track 3 could end up getting filtered and thrown into the delay and/or reverb of track 4. Depends on how long the sounds are and it can sound really nice for syncopated stuff.
in all my years of messing w elektron gear, this is easily my favorite update. rytm is killin it man!
On MK1, does anyone know how to exclude the activation of the Fill mode when trying to use the new page selection feature accessible from the page button while playing ?
