When I load samples on my RYTM, it will only load up to 16% each time before each new sample reads as an error. I’ve tried wiping the drive, reformatting and no luck. I’m thinking there’s a problem with the hard drive. Has anyone else faced this issue? I’m thinking of replacing the hard drive, does anyone know of documentation showing how to do this and what drive it would require? All help is appreciated!
I assume that you’re using the transfer software to load samples? Have you tried one at a time? Or really short samples one at a time, just to see what happens?
Does it log an error when you run the error check in the test mode? If you haven’t yet, you should check that and share the results. Hold func while your RYTM is powered off and then turn it on while it’s still pressed down, release func when it logs into the test mode screen. Choose the error test and check the results on the screen when it completes.
There’s no documentation that I know of about replacement, elektron doesn’t do public service manuals. Your best bet would be to contact them directly. I don’t know if they have the part for sale separately. Maybe.
More likely that if they have something you can purchase, that it will be the entire logic board which you could buy from them and have shipped to you, but you’ll have to ask. Use the contact support link for the elektron.se website.
Make sure you follow through with whatever troubleshooting they suggest. Also make sure that you have the most recent firmware and most recent version of transfer before you give up on this, but if it’s truly got a bad hard drive the above should get you started towards a resolution of some kind.
Good luck.
Adding to that: troubleshooting all components is key.
Try uploading from a different computer.
Try another cable (I was once bitten by a cheap USB 1 cable that caused random problems when using it with overbridge)
Test mode is probably the way to check the Rytm itself.
Afaik there’s not external ‘drive’ in the Rytm, just a flash memory chip. It’s very rare for it to go bad but it’s not easy to replace so a new logic board might be necesary.
You might be experiencing the dreaded Transfer app issue, where it wont transfer samples properly and might even crash/freeze your Rytm MKI. Try using transfer with a different computer, and make sure to contact Elektron about it
