Analog Keys to Digitakt, how to not send velocity?

I frequently use my Analog Keys to enter in notes and chords into the sequencer of my Digitakt. My AK is off to the side of the DT, so I am reaching with my left hand to play the notes and chords, and so velocity is often all over the shop, and it is quite annoying to have to manually keep adjusting the velocity per step on the DT when I am working quickly.

I have tried turning velocity to off on the AK, which turns off velocity for the internal voice but has no effect on the AK’s ‘MIDI Ext’ mode, which for obvious reasons I am using. I can’t find any velocity options for MIDI Ext mode, and I have searched the manual with no luck.

Similarly I can’t find any filtering options on the DT.

Am I out of luck?

I don’t know if this is relevant to MIDI or not, but I found these posts about adjusting the velocity to volume setting on AK to change the velocity curve, and conversely turning off velocity to volume and manually adjusting modulation depth. These may have no impact since, as you said, you already tried turning off the AK velocity but maybe worth a mention.

Digitakt AFAIK can’t filter out the messages, you’d need a secondary device with midi filtering capabilities. Digitakt is locking those velocities to the step along with the note data, and I just don’t think there’s a way to prevent that but I could be wrong, hopefully I’m wrong.

Hmm that might work if I set one of the performance knobs to the velocity CC and then set that. I’ll give it a try, thanks.

Blast it, it’s a no go. There is no CC for velocity on the synth I’m controlling, only volume, and if I use volume and crank it up, the velocity remains as it was before.

I want to say this won’t change anything but it’s worth a try to go into digitakt (midi) port settings and disable receive cc/nrpn then give it another shot and let me know how that goes.

Sadly it does nothing for incoming note data, one of the first moments of false hope in my menu exploration a few days back haha
