Analog Heat Error Codes

Hi Folks. Just had a MK1 AH delivered. It’s not functioning and test screen shows the codes in the picture. Anyone have any ideas?

I’m just taking a wide swing here, but it seems that either someone sent you a device with existing issues, or something got jostled in shipping and (unlikely) caused the problem.

An FPGA is a field programmable gate array, google describes it as an off the shelf integrated circuit device which is user programmable (by user we’re talking about elektron dev team in designing the device). So a set of reconfiguragble logic blocks.

I read that in general an FPGA is usually clocked at a much different speed than the processor but how that relates to AH mkI specifically I don’t know, however, you have an error right after FPGA that says “audio clock” (assuming that unless this is audio click, that clock is what it means) so as I said I’m making a broad assumption that the 2 errors might be related and maybe there is a sync issue or the OS has become corrupt and the processor can’t time them correctly?

So, coming from no knowledge of the problem other than what you’re showing and no real idea of what else might be going on here my first thoughts are:

  • do you want to keep a device that was problematic out of the box?
  • have you tried either upgrading the firmware? or do a downgrade and then an upgrade (just to make sure the issue isn’t software related?) because this is probably the first troubleshooting step I would take.
  • if firmware upgrades don’t help and it turns out to be an issue physically caused in shipping and you do want to keep it, I might open it up and reseat the ribbon cables between the PCB’s.
  • have you or do you intend to open a trouble ticket with elektron? may not be the short route but probably the most direct. That device is of course not going to be under warranty so anything where you send it to them for repair will be at your cost, which brings us back to…
  • do you want to keep a device that was problematic out of the box?

Depending on the situation, I might just send it back, but I’d at least try to do a sysex upgrade (or downgrade/upgrade) the firmware before doing that. Hopefully someone who has experienced this specific issue will have something to say. Good luck.

I’m actually the fellow who sent the Analog Heat to this guy, and it was working fine when I last used it a few months ago, so was surprised when he shared these images with me earlier.

Hopefully Elektron can assist but I feel terrible right now for such stupid challenges. Whenever I’ve had quirky issues it’s often necessary to upgrade the firmware. I had recent issues with an old Digitakt that needed an upgrade and couldn’t access the firmware online, but thankfully someone on this forum kindly sent me the file. That was mighty frustrating indeed.

I’m wondering if it’s been caused by the shipping in the UK in the last day. Elektron themselves are usually quite responsive too, so I’m hoping that they can help @Deaf_Eric out there too.

Fingers crossed it’s something simple, or else it’s returning a machine presumably broken by the mail service :frowning:

Thanks for your reply, Robin has been in touch who I bought it from, just unfortunate I think.

Hi Robin, thanks for replying, I’ll email Electron and see what they say but obv if it needs to be sent away for repair I will have to return it.
I’ll let you know what they say Cheers
