Does anyone have much luck just using the A4 on its own?
I currently have the DT2 and DN2 and have come to realise that it’s better for me to leave one box on my desk at a time and use it on its own.
Despite the DN2 having 16 tracks I still love the sound and attention to detail you get when you put the majority of drums on one track.
I really enjoy having limitations in my music.
What kind of music do you make?
With parameter locks you can get
T1: kick and bassline with sine osc
T2: open and closed hats, snares with noise
T3: chords by using the 5th sub trick
T4: more percs? or a pad…
I use the A4 standalone. fkn love it by itself. the only thing is my kicks tend to be a bit “flabby”. cuz I’m not good enough.
I use it all the time by itself, amazing 4 voice bass
Only just made a video about this yesterday. Just quickly showing how capable the A4 is doing a Full beat on its own. Hoping to delve much further into this in the future to see how far it can be pushed. I think you could do a full album/set easily and have it sound just as finished and full as with a much larger setup, with some sequencing tricks.
Great vid. The A4 is the most under utilised machine in my setup. I’m determined to use it to its full potential so have removed it from its friends in my studio to use as a stand-alone box
Thanks mate. Im going to spend sometime with it solo too. Best way to learn the ins and outs of a new device I reakon!
i did for years with much pleasure
Too many curse words, didnt sub haha
nice A4
Various patterns in different styles (preview in the beginning) …
… and two full length tracks …
But we still need to know what kind of music OP wants to make ![]()
Haha, you been lurk watching my vids mate?? I knew youd come back around. Ill get you subbing on the next one, but Ill prob still swear coz Im a filthy Aussie convict
I made this using the A4 mki solo. Really loved that thing and miss it sometimes but now I rock the Syntakt…
New phone, who dis? lol
How do you find the syntakts sound design depth compared to the a4. The number of tracks and extra digital machines was always very enticing.
Haha
Sorry I was trying to chat too chuck herbs anyway
A4 totally great as standalone.
no issues it was my first Elektron box and I had no problems making complete songs and sets with it. The features are great and massive sound.
The Syntakt is often underestimated for its synthesis abilities but it’s still not as comprehensive as the A4 which has more modulation targets, polyphony, kits, parameter slides, an arp etc. That being said, I would never trade my ST for an A4 because I love the variety of machines on the ST.
If you love drums on one track you should just challenge yourself to parameter lock your percussion on a single track using the DN2. I think the DN2 is likely Elektron’s deepest offering concerning synthesis and unless you really need analog you should stick it out (unless you’ve had it for a while then go with your gut and sound examples;)
