Allen & Heath Qu-16 and MIDI

Does anyone have this mixer?

Allen & Heath Qu-16 Chrome

If so how to call program change since this mixer hasn’t got no MIDI in and out?

It looks like it can be done from usb and computer but I don’t want computer involved… I want to go Dawless and change programs…

Anyone has got any experience?

I want to buy that but I am sitting on the fence because of this issue.

Thanks

I use an sq mixer so it might not be the same, but the midi protocol guide had most of the info I needed to get set up

If you’re not using a computer you’d have to use TCP via ethernet

A solution could be to use some USB MIDI hub, maybe.
What would you want to control exactly ?

There is a Qu Midi discussion thread on the A&H Qu forum: https://community.allen-heath.com/forums/topic/qu-16-midi-specs

If you have a Bome Box on the same network as the Qu, it will do midi translation for you without needing a computer.

Bloop That sucks, MIDI works via computer or network which means if you go to a gig you need to take your laptop or find a network… I don’t understand why MIDI in and out hasn’t been added to this mixer

LayongDalai I Play out at gigs and avoid computer and network connection

Dymaxion do i still need a network to use BomeBox? This box is pricey £172 I would buy it but fuck network… i want freedom to play it wherever i am and not worry about network

Same here.
Look for MIDI USB hubs such as MIO4 (and others). You don’t need a computer to use this.

My question was: what do you want MIDI to control in you Qu16?

I want to Call different scenes when i change patterns…
I am choosing between this mixer and MIDAS M32R live

The box is tiny. You should be able to velcro it to the mixer and just leave it plugged in. You can probably even power it from the mixer’s usb port, if you’re not using it for anything else. Will take a little setup, but it should just work once it’s done. And yes, it’s not cheap — I don’t mind because I use mine for all my midi routing, but I get that if you’re not doing that, it’s annoying.

Qu16 can do multitrack recording without a computer, directly on a USB key.
Pretty cool for live use, IMO.

This mixer is really cool apart from not having a MIDI in and out

Temptation… everything is just cool about it but I want a MIDI in and out…
I also like the MIDAS M32R live but it is more expensive and it is XLR in…
difficult decision… thanks for the hint tho

That‘s my dilemma as well. I can sell you a Bomebox though  What about an RME UFX for example? It has MIDI and can also record to USB.

I have decided to buy MIDAS M32R Live but thanks for the offer…

I am keen to know how it works out! Thought about getting this stagebox as well for years… would be cool to hear back how it works out!

I thought it has midi in/out through USB

I reckon MIDI DIN is requested… but I think this won’t suffice because e.g. scene change seems like a Sysex command… so not really operationable through let’s say an OT / without a computer

Same here, it always came down to A&H QS5, Presonus Livestudio 32SX (which looks best to me) and Midas M32R Live. I was about to buy the Presonus actually, but after advice from a professional sound guy AND especially after an great offer, I went for Midas M32R Live + DL32. Should arrive any day now. Glad I finally made the decision, because comparing can drive you nuts.
