Loved it!
My only issue which I wish they would have addressed is the Ash character. His role was great, but, he was so uncanny CGI that is was a little cringe.
The third act was bananas! Gotta say thank you to the filmmakers for that one!

Just been to the cinema, thatās a good one! The āused futureā is back, it was about time. Not sure about the rendering of ash /rook too. It looks like they wanted to give it an animatronic look, but in cgi.
The movie feel like an effort to reboot the franchise, without leaving the old fans unsatisfied, thereās a lot of self references and a lot of scenes reminded me of alien, aliens and - to my surprise - alien ressurection. Not in a bad way though.
They even succeed in making a useful connection with prometheus and covenant two films I personally love to hate.
I liked it ā¦ Iām not a crazy alien nerd , the visuals are good , nice lighting and familiar setups.
I agree about the cgi/animatronic aspect but otherwise it was in style ( grungey lofi tech )
Performances were good and the accents seemed authentic ( the āLondonā bloke didnāt sound as terrible as Karl urban in the boys ā¦ I presume itās because heās a British actor )
Im glad to see you folks enjoyed it. As someone who is a b8g fan of yhe first two and whoās been waiting for a return to the Aliens world, I was a little worried about some early reviews slagging it off. Althoug all know ācriticsā are a dime a dozen and many times can have completely wank takes. I mean, how many critics gave favorable reviews for Da 5 Bloods? That was one of the worst movies of the year and I thought I was losing my mind as everyone initially kept giving it good reviews with talking points making it seem as if it was an art piece of great social importance.
I liked it but could do with another watch. I thought it was overly dark. I kept wishing I could see more detail, but I agree the vibe was right for the Alien/Aliens aesthetic.
Yeah, I loved the slow burn intro. The retro futurism of crappy used electronics is a big part of Alien IMO. The world felt nicely lived in. From what I read, it was filmed chronologically. It definitely felt that way because the acting at the start was not great, almost like they were getting warmed up in the first half. Treatment of the android felt fresh, although the āGet away from herā line was an eye roller. The āGame Over, manā callback was much better and more subtle.
Alien baby was gross (in a good way). I loved the detail when they were tracking it of the footprints getting steadily bigger until it was full grown. And that full frontal shotā¦woof. The Xenomorphs were well done, extremely slimy. They felt sufficiently dangerous. And the āDonāt Breatheā sequence with the facehuggers was a great little scene.
Iām willing to go as high as putting it third in franchise, though Iāve only watched Prometheus and Covenant once.
Trash.
Are callbacks in sequels now inserted as studio fat cats demand them and think itās a good idea, or do they know a load of YouTubers will make videos identifying each one resulting in more free marketing?
Either way every call back (some subtle, some blatant) was ultimately pointless and boring.
Was invested at the start, but nothing new and mind warping has stayed with me after viewing. Shame.
I currently have it tied with Aliens for second place. I mostly loved it but I have two criticisms. The stupid āget away from herā callback was dumb as the day is long. And it seems most action movies nowadays have to be like āand now this scene will be awesome because weāll make it feel like some level out of a videogameā. Referring to the swimming past the acid in zero g. As an off-and-on gamer, that kind of thing always feels a little corny and this one was no exception. I like games to be games and movies to be movies. Anyhow, I mainly liked it and look forward to seeing it again.
I have Alien: Romulus ranked as best film of the franchise. I wasnāt even excited to see it because Ridley Scott wasnāt directing, but Iām so glad I watched it in theaters.
I thought it was okay, but as a 43 year old, this was the first time Iāve seen a movie and thought every actor looked like they were 15 years old to the point it was distractingā¦
I liked the moment where she turned off the gravity before shooting all the Aliens and then floating between the goop drops. But I was also like, wow, pretty quick thinking for a high school sophomoreā¦
Agreed that the fake Ian Holm and the āget away from herā lines were low points.
In my opinion Ash is no CGI but a product from an AI
The movie is refreshing, very different characters, different styles
Iāve got emotionaly engagedā¦ and thatās a good sign for me
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I havenāt been to the theater in years but it was worth it. Loved the influence from the Alien: Isolation game, which I highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of the franchise, even if youāre not a big gamer (its available for iOS).
CGI = Computer Generated Imagery
If it was generated by AI, it is by definition CGI
If it was generated by AI, it is by definition CGI
thx for the clarification
It could be be a deep fake, but I have seen more convincing results, and it is intriguing because all the rest is technically on point. Could it be a desired effect, and not a bad cgi?
Director Fede Alvarez and producer Ridley Scott wanted to honor an actor from the original 1979 film using AI. We spoke to them about how ā and why ā they did it.
Edit : so yeah, animatronic plus AI

In the article, the interviewed person says itās CGI. The author of the article calls, whatever what was used āAIā. At least, it is not clear.
Then it is bad CGI, but maybe intended
On YT there are quite alot short AI movies in that quality like seen with this Ash character
They trained an AI with the voice from Ash, the article points in this direction
Loved it. Thought it was the first great Alien movie in 45 years. Think it does a better job of being true to the mystery and suspense of the original than basically any other film in the franchise. Was relieved the characters were generally capable and likable, rather than arrogant idiots like in Prometheus. Thought it had a very smart tie-ins to other films. Really donāt understand why people are so up in arms about the little easter eggs (like the Reebok shoes, the āget away from herā line). They were such small bits of the movie, doesnāt make sense that they could ruin the whole thing for you.
Been going back thru the classics to see how I feel about them now. So far:
Alien - definitely the masterpiece. Nails atmosphere, mystery, anti-capitalist themes, practical fx, imagination, set design.
Aliens - nowhere near as good as I remembered. Feels cheap. Most sets donāt have anywhere near the imagination of Alien, although some of the shots are spectacular (everything with the Atmospheric Processor is great). The finale is still awesome, and the practical fx for the queen and the loader are amazing. But man, not a great movie!
Going to rewatch Alien 3 next.
Make sure you track down the Assembly Cut of Alien 3. It is literally a whole different movie. Itās actually pretty good!
