Tubedigga did an amazing jungle set with that and the mpc one

He is one of the best resources for the MPC, also a lot of tutorials that are worth to watch. I still have to find that 1h set done on the mpc. Maybe that could be a challenge to create one, in that process something about the limitations of the machine, and file management could be learned, if its worth to pursue it. I still use it as a 1 project, one track machine.

Definitely. He’s one of the reasons I haven’t sold my mpc. Probably going to get an Octatrack to pair beside the mpc. It’s just too damn easy to make a loop on the MPC. I think bouncing it into the Octatrack will create the havok I need to break the boringness I’ve been feeling while using the MPC lately.

With two MPC’s or one MPC and another sampler (sp404) and a 2 ch dj mixer you can have a virtually infinite session

Ambient MPC track

Agree with most points you lay out here, I have similar gripes with my MPC and in terms of live sample manipulations and sound design (basically live performance) the MPCs don’t come close to the Elektron workflow (unfortunately, and as you say mainly because Akai didn’t bother to invest a little more in UI design, it’s mainly a software issue).

Just wanted to mention a few workarounds that I’ve discovered that make my MPC more jammable:

Q-Link Mappings - you can in fact ā€œhard mapā€ the q-links to eg filter cutoffs etc to introduce movement to sounds or entire programs while being on other screens (as you probably know already) - long-press the q-link button and there will be different options of what mappings (Project / Pad / Program / Screen) should apply to the q-links.

Track Mutes - I’ve got a small midi controller with 16 pads attached to my MPC Live and I’ve got track mutes (and pad mutes) mapped out on that controller (page A = track mutes, page B = pad mutes). This allows me to mute tracks/pads while being on other screens in the MPC. eg I can edit a program / mess with the XY pad and still mute on the fly (or use Pad Perform on the MPC pads and mute at the same time etc). It also allows me to use pad & track mutes in near realtime together.

Q-Links no.2 - There’s a workaround to globally map the Q-Links to a midi controller (eg Midi Fighter Twister) in standalone mode. This allows for 16 hardware controls of q-link parameters on MPC Live & MPC One. I’ve posted the how-to link (all credit goes to TheKikGen) in the MPC Live thread here two days ago. The fact that this needs to be a ā€œhackā€ is super annoying, as Akai makes global midi mappings available in controller mode but unavailable in standalone mode - in my mind in order to protect the attractiveness of the MPC X.

I went from Octatrack to MPC Live to Akai Force.
The Force marks a massive improvement on the MPC workflow, you still keep the same pad based workflow that defines the MPCs but it’s much easier now to move away from the loop trap and create songs. It’s still not the perfect workflow but there’s nothing like it in the hardware realm.
The clunkiness in the knob assignment is still there in part, but having the crossfader and other pad modes helps a lot.

They gatekeep their midi implementation and it’s upsetting. I should of clarified with mappable Q links not being assignable to parameters in a keygroup. What’s the point of creating a keygroup of your softsynths if you can’t even adjust the basics of synthesis without menu diving in which to edit this parameters for a song are conflicting due to the automation recording script. Meaning I’ll have to manually adjust the next sequence back to 0 which the mpc has a hard time doing for some reason.

I’ve looked into similar external pieces of gear to side with the mpc but when it comes down to it, I can’t really see myself using the MPC for such things. It’s not very inviting for performance or full production. I may have to reconsider though. Are the external midi motions able to be recorded?

I have looked at the force but a strong point I love about the live is the midi capabilities. I’m stubborn and use a computer as little as possible. So having a clunky MPC for a midi screen helps me sometimes more than not.

I have mapped yeaterday the Faderfox EC4, wouldnt it be possible to learn it volume automation, or fx send level wirh the normal method? The Kik Gen has which advantage vs normal OS? I had no time to experiment with it yet, config of that EC4 took 1h and i am not finished yet. I want to control pad volume in the pad mixer for testing. /Level Drums./Filter Drum Pads. NPRN of the P12 Module isnt that obvious either to program.

Has anyone had issues sequencing the drum synth externally? I am trying to sequence with my polyend tracker and it can do the other plugins just fine but the drum synth is no dice

Thoughts?

If it’s like the Force, here are the mappings:

DrumSynth:Multi - Pad 1(Kick)=MIDI Note#0, Pad 2(Snare)=1, and so on.

DrumSynth:Individual - MIDI Note#36 appears to coorespond to Pad 1, when root is C, octave=1.

Thank you I’ll have to try and figure out how to set this up but you have me a great clue!!!

for the first time in a long time I’ve got a piece of hardware again. I thought the gold would be horrendous but it’s growing on me in an ironically gaudy kind of way and I got a good price. Quite like it. Nice to be back at it after a long break. anyone with a one miss the arrow keys though 1k style? I prefer that to the touch screen. Kind of thought the big knob would be 4 directional. does the one just rely heavily on touching the screen? Gonna take some getting used to. V happy so far

I did until I learned to touch the parameter on screen with my left hand, then turn the big encoder with my right. Much faster than the old arrow buttons. Plus it’s much faster to zero-out parameters by swiping on the screen.

I HATED those on mine :joy::blush:

I’m sure I’ll get used to it. Adapt or perish as they say

Heresy, I loved it. I think it might just be out of habit though. Wonder if fat pads will ever surface

yea i find this way of adjusting parameters [touch screen n adjust with wheel] quick and enjoyable. much prefer it to arrow buttons myself.

quick question. Screen plastic, take it off or leave it on? If it makes no difference to touch sensitivity I’ll just leave it

I’ve left mine on so far, but the tab does call to me to peel it…
