Hi guys,
I’m looking forward to buy my first Elektron machine, and I’ve found a nice one but how can i value the real conditions of the machine if i don’t know how to use it?
The owner said that he’s owning the machine since tree years and the only problem it has is the headphones volume knob that wobbles.
What should somebody look at when it come to a second hand product?

Which Elektron? Oh judging by the forum section it’s Octatrack 
If it’s mkI ask about the headphone output. It’s a common problem that one of the channels goes out occasionally and you might not hear it when checking if you have the chance.
See the manual for how to enter the test mode. There you can check every button and encoder and the fader with visual feedback on how they work, and the display too, and see the self diagnostics.
I think (it’s been a loong time) you can also boot it in demo mode somehow (again see manual before going to test it) and you will have some patterns and sounds to play with and feel it out.

Hold down [FUNC] while turning on the power, then trig 1 to enter test mode.
And for demo mode:
“Make sure no Compact Flash card is inserted. Press and hold the [YES] key and then switch on the Octatrack MKII. The screen shows that you are entering demo mode.”
The manual explains how to play demo patterns etc

Yes the machine is an OT Mk2, tomorrow the guy will send me a video of the wobbling knob, is it possible to repair or replace it in case?
And be EXTREMELY gentle when pulling it out and pushing it back in. CF card readers are not the most reliable pieces of hardware…

Yep I think I ever had the CF out of there once when I replaced the factory card with a bigger one. There’s really no reason to remove it.

Elektron will repair wobbly knobs if you ship it to them, or a local synth repair shop should be able to. You’ll have to pay either way, but it’s not a difficult repair (I had the same problem on a digitone keys).
