I am new to community and not sure who to ask. I am considering purchase of Octatrack MKII as a sequencer. I used to use Korg Electribe and it had option to play a guitar into it and record it without any microphone device. There was special cord transition that went directly from guitar to the unit and could record. I am wondering if that is possible with Elektron devices? My apologizes if this question has been answered. I am not sure where to look.
Which Elektribe?
Electric guitar?
“special cord transition”?
OT has line inputs only, and no preamp / amp / cab simulator. Not appropriate, but…
You can boost the signal and add fx with filter distorsion, compressor, chorus, delay, reverb…Not ideal but I do it sometimes, too lazy to plug my Hx Stomp.
Exemple with passive travel guitar straight into OT. Guitar only, even “drum” sounds, no samples.
Ah ok. I think you can do much better things wirh OT.
with realtime sampling, you can sequence / modify each step, lock fx on each step, make bass / drums from guitar, from incoming signal only :
I used an Analog Heat as preamp / distortion.
With filtering for me it sounds more like a synth, but it is not really a good guitar sound.
Definitely depends on what kind of guitar sound you like. Guitar Amp + Mic + mic preamp > OT is a possibility. You can plug it straight in, but it won’t sound good as is. Not made for that.
I like to use my HX STOMP amp/cab simulator. Sansamp like FET pedals are cheap. Check this thread maybe…
