Adventures in the noise rock-adjacent underground

Great album.

Not a lot of people can boast that they recorded their debut with Steve Albini.

Am I the only one who misses when Black Dice was a grind band?

Noise adjacent bands I listened to in the late 90s/early 00s…
Black Dice
The Locust
Lake of Dracula
US Maple
Godheadsilo
Worst Case Scrnario
Jenny Piccolo
Man is the Bastard
Behead the Prophet N.L.S.L.
Men’s Recovery Project
Volume Eleven

I miss the angular/post hardcore of the 90s!

Ciccone Youth, The Whitey Album
Pussy Galore
Bewitched
A lot of Sonic Youth stuff is great. Last time I saw Thurston Moore he was playing with the bassist from My Bloody Valentine and a guy from NegitiveLand. Full on Noise Adjacent.

See them if you get the chance, it’s an experience. I was in Seattle when they were starting out and I remember seeing them play at bars and punk houses. Crazy remembering them doing their thing in some punk kids living room (smoke machines and all) now that they play big clubs. Great either way.
I jammed with O’Malley once, not at a gig or anything, just at someone’s house. Seattle used to be a small town. His previous bands were good too if less epic (burning witch, thorrs hammer). And of course the band that inspired Sunn O))) was Earth. Their early stuff was great and kinda pioneered the style, their later stuff is pretty different though.

Great list! I haven’t thought about Behead the Prophet No Lord Shall Live in years! Such a great band. They used to come up and play with Teen Cthulhu occasionally.
I was also a massive godheadsilo fan for a long time. One of my long time faves.

I once got to watch the singer for Behead the Prophet teach people how to cook vegan food between bands. Haha!

I almost went in to og screamo bands but thought it strayed too far from the noise genre. Haha! Chaos is Me was life changing. HHIG, UoA, and all that are where my teenage/early twenties heart lie.
Le Shok, Crimson Curse, The VSS, and Milemarker are what got me in to synths.

I never saw him do that but I know that was a thing. He was trying to put a cooking show together at one point but I don’t know if it ever happened.
Were you ever into the Mukleteo Faeries? It was his previous band. Good band but not as crazy as BtPNLSL.
