Additional synth for my setup...suggestion?

So Im looking for a additional synth for my setup. My setup is at the moment AR-A4-OT . What ive Been looking at so far is a Moog Sub 37, MFB Dominion 1 and Dreadbox Erebus…the crux is that i can only buy 1 piece of equipment this years and thats for my birthday.
What Im looking for is something that can do little bit of everthing but mostly acidic sounds and groovy basslines.

Do u fellow Elektronauts have any other suggestions or opinions?
When This is the only piece of gear i could buy this year i would get the most out of IT and much pleasure and joy :joy:

I had a play recently with a Sub 37 and with the new firmware updates it’s an awesome machine, particularly with the new sequencer capabilities. You can certainly coax some nice acid sounds out of it and it’s duophonic.

I’ve also got my eye on the Avalon baseline

Likely around two thirds the price of a Sub 37 or Dom 1

Dom 1 gives some interesting CV patching possibilities with the A4, but never heard it. How important is a ring mod and fm? Just wish it was a module and smaller.

Ooh decisions! How about a Pro2, 4 digital oscillators and a sub obscillator, matching the A4s 4 voices could be interesting, but more dollars. You’d be in sound design heaven!

You’ll have a blast whichever! What sounds are you after, what type of music are you into and can you play a keyboard?

For something a little different how about an OP-1?

Well the sound Im after is lening more to is the electronic genres…psytrance, techno, ambient, suomisound etc. I want to have fun and get weird sounds out of as well as basslines, pads and so on. Whats is important for me is the sound.,want IT to be rich and fat. The synth should be"easy and fun" to play with and a sequencer is must have or the option to sequence via external source like the OT or A4…

Maybe i should have asked what would u buy IF u only could buy 1 synth or piece of gear this year ?

I have a Bass Station 2, it runs thru a EHX memory boy into a thru track on the OT with dark Reverb. Sounds Fing smart and loads of direct tweak able fun.

Have you considered a MonoMachine?

want IT to be rich and fat. The synth should be"easy and fun" to play with

Well, those aren’t the first adjectives that get thrown around for the MonoMachine… But you’re an Elektron veteran, so you can make it happen!
Your A4’s inputs can thicken it up a bit, too.

and a sequencer is must have or the option to sequence via external source like the OT or A4…

Check. Although just about any synth will meet the criteria of having either a sequencer, midi control input, or CV control input

Maybe i should have asked what would u buy IF u only could buy 1 synth or piece of gear this year ?

MonoMachine.
If not MonoMachine, I think either Virus TI Snow or Blofeld would round out your stable, nicely. Good luck!

Sub 37. Pure class. Or grit and grime, whatever you want. Very flexible modulation with four different filter poles, multidrive and internal feedback should get you just about anywhere you’d want a keyboard mono synth to take you.

If the Sub37 is on your list, and you are able to get it- get it!
(Don’t have one, but it’s my current object of desire).

A Blofeld will give you a huge sound palette though, especially with the sample option.

It seems to me like you’ve really got a lot of analog sound covered with your current setup, so I’m going to suggest looking at options to fill out your sound.

As you’re already versed in Elektronese, I think the Monomachine would fit nicely for you. Lots of different synthesis methods at your fingertips that would compliment your current setup.

On kind of a similar tip, an iPad if you don’t have one. Sonically, you’ll expand your options and have lots of OT sequencing options for cheap, and it can be a great controller option. With what you already have it would do a ton, and if you needed something like an analog poly with more voices you could get an Alpha Juno for cheap.

Excellent timing as I’m in the same boat! Got the dark trinity and fancy adding something. For the price , Erebus seems like a bargain. Why not something like that plus a Strymon (El Capistan sounds amazing). I know you say one piece but if your budget goes to a Sub 37 then worth considering an Erebus plus fx option?

Personally I’m finding its nightmare to decide! I’ve thought about a Monomachine, Striechfett, Blofeld, Minibrute, Sub Phatty, Strymons, Virus, etc etc etc. I find part of the problem is not quite knowing how Overnridge will impact my flow. Anyway, notmy thread. You can get some killer bass sounds from the digital space though!

Ouff so much great tips and suggestion…now ive narrowed IT down to the SUB 37, MFB Dominion1 and the Monomachine.

Do u know IF its easy and possible to sequnce the SUB 37 from the OT or A4? That could be the dealbreaker with the SUB37.

The Monomachine is a choice …Been listnig to IT the whole morning and it has an intresting pallet of sounds…but its missing a keybed and not so much knob per funktion…thats where the sub 37 shines…But already having 3 elektron boxes with all the menu diving its not a deal breaker just think IT would be fun with a piece with a little diffrent workflow to change things up…gaaah :zonked:!!!

The Dominion sounds great but Im a bit worried about quality and updates…seems like a small company …so its probably not gonna be that one…or ?

When IT comes to quality i know Elektron and Moog are pretty safe choices

Choices choices choices…

I’m looking as well, and have decided to wait and see if anything new comes at Messe, which is mid April I think.
I’ve been looking for a while now, and just cant decide. The DSI Pro2 is now Euro1990 at Thomann, which is too much for me really. MFB hinted on gearslutz that there may be a Doninion 1 rack/module coming soon (not the old one). Modal Electronics, who make the brilliant but too expensive 002, have hinted at 4 or 5 new products by years end, which could be modular stuff, but I’m hoping for a cut down, more affordable version of the 002.
So many choices…shit, I hate being patient!

Think I’ll be diong the same mate. Wait and see what Messe brings. I can’t decide whether I should keep my digital side to soft synths or not - how successful Overbridge is will decide that. If Elektron nail it then I will be focusing on a new midi controller + analogue module + something else. If not, then might be time to try that MnM or to give the OP-1 another shot.
Every time I think I’ve made my mind up I see some other Youtube video of something really cool and think “shit, I want that instead!”. If I was a rich man I’d have a home studio full of shit I’d never use!

What Im looking for is something that can do little bit of everthing but mostly acidic sounds and groovy basslines.

I second Old Dub Dude: Shruthi are awesome. You can chose among lots of different filters depending your tastes. You can even go for an ambika (6 voices shruthi basically).

Also: waldorf pulse 2 or even a classical blofeld?

since you had the Sub37 on your list to start with, there is no question, get it (if you can even find one)

if I could only buy one synth this year it would be that one, period (however, I already own it)

as far as sequencing it, you could use your A4 (CV) or your OT (Midi)…I have both of those as well and don’t typically use either to sequence it (but have used both to sequence it)

I usually use the sub37 built in sequencer, I’m actually beta testing the new firmware that gives the sequencer a major upgrade, along with a major upgrade on setting modulation destinations

if you don’t like the sub37, I imagine you can sell it without any trouble at all, it will go down as a classic IMO

I pre-ordered one, I’m a sucker for the sound (I know showing my age) but didn’t want to go back and buy a vintage tb303.
