Well executed.
So is everything here looped audio files as opposed to on-the-spot synthesis? Is the MS the only thing generating sound and the OT is basically just a mixer/remixer? How do you go about live mangling recordings from the MS? Is it mangling previous recordings?
Single shot .wavs, sequenced and processed by MS. Heavy filter LFO, lock trigs, conditionals/fills…
MS is 95% of what you are hearing. Each tune is a single pattern, played back live.
The other 5% are previously recorded MS loops in a single flex track, just sequenced on the fly as a backing percussion layer, usually around transitions. I choose them on the fly from the flex list.
Slicing the flex recorder buffer. Resetting trigs. All live, not previously mangled.
Twister helps a lot in this regard as it gives me tactile mixing (level, eq, fx) facilities on the thru track and flex loop recorder independently.
Do what is right for you.
I think whatever box or two boxes you gel with most would be the way to go. OT just makes it easier to work them out live.
That’s pretty awesome. I need to look into slicing the recorder buffer. I guess you have it continuously recording as opposed to a oneshot trig?
Nope.
I use a one shot recorder trig that i just arm when i want to record (T7+Yes).
You don’t even have to re-slice.
here’s the process. This is an excerpt for a post i made in the latest pickup machines thread…
Ah. So you’re not live slicing all incoming audio. Gotcha. That’s something I want to try.
Straight Techno and Dub Techno are not my usual go to’s BUT I just gotta say I listened all the way through this entire set and not once did I feel it was repetitive or losing energy. Damn! @AdamJay you fckn rocked the Model:Samples to DEATH man!! I’m going to give this a few more listens and try to do some more analysis.
Now you can tell (and show) everyone who says you can’t rock an hour long set without a laptop. You rocked over an hour with 95% being the toy / stripped down / fragile / not enough functionality / not professional enough - Model Samples!!
On my 4th listen…I want an OT…
Thought I’d echo what @Synj00 said - I wouldn’t usually go near anything like this, it’s just not my bag, but I thought I’d give it a go…still there an hour and fifteen later. Great work.
This is great stuff! Skill for sure.
to be fair to the MS, all the sounds originated there.
OT just makes turning those 14 or 15 patterns into more of a continuous performance.
Unless, though, it’s the performance aspect you want.
I need you to teach me livestream lighting, kplzthx.
Fxckn proper
CDM did a thing about it.
Added to the title post as well.
Excellent read.
great sound and it felt so good to read this article!
Nice interview Adam!
I also like the performance, very dynamic and not repetitive.
Well done!
This is awesome, thanks for the breakdown! What you manage to get out of those limitations is really astounding!
