Really enjoyed that Adam. Was offered a TM-2 recently - are they worth getting do you think?

Hey! I think the TM-2 is a great A4 companion if you have the CV track free, or if you own a Monomachine and need to add some drum samples on the cheap.
I enjoy using A4’s trig conditions on the TM-2.
The built in compressor ain’t bad, either.

Thanks - I didn’t get it because I already have the MD and AR, TR-8 and thought it might just be another drum machine which I never actually use. It just looks so dinky and neat and the kick works well in the track you posted there. Plus I already have the 0-Coast and Mother-32 hogging the CV track of my A4. But I guess I could use an impulse machine on the AR or MD to trigger it instead… hmmmmm

It’s more a vestige from my pre-MD days, than a necessity.

with MD/AR/TR-8, I think it would be overkill.

Thanks - I’ll take that advice and save a few pounds!

This is really cool. Nice work.

not to derail the thread further away from your highly enjoyable track :stuck_out_tongue: but damn, that TM2 looks like a sweet little drum solution. if you don’t mind, the manual suggests a few things but isn’t crystal clear on them:

  • can you trigger the TM2 via MIDI?
  • can it play all 4 of a kit’s sounds simultaneously?
  • have you messed with playing loops? any thoughts on its capabilities in that regard if so?

1- YEP. And in addition to MIDI note triggers, it responds to MIDI program change.

2- Yes. You can achieve this by turning off the rim/head choke groups. On this track I am using the TM-2 to play 4 sounds; a Drumatix Kick & Cymbal on the 1 trigger (rim and head), and a Drumatix CH & OH on the 2 trigger (rim and head). This track started as a challenge I put upon myself to get an entire 606 style drum kit from the TM-2 and my A4, using A4 to synthesize the 606 snare and toms. It worked. And I only use 1 A4 voice for the snare and toms, thanks to sound locks.

3- I haven’t messed with loops yet and doubt I will need to as loops just don’t interest me much, but I see no reason why they wouldn’t work.
It would be much like using loops in Rytm. There is no built in time stretch, but matching the loops BPM to your sequencer’s BPM would work. You can even set each sound to “poly” or “mono”. This poly setting allows the tail of a sound to play to completion, even once it has been retriggered, which should help with getting seamless transitions between the end of the loop and the moment it is retriggered.

Much is explained in my A4 + TM-2 workflow video here:
