Access Virus discontinued?

Sad news if true… I don’t know more than this.

It is probably best to wait for official word from Access on whether the Virus is actually discontinued. B&H stopped selling them a while back.

Sweetwater lists the TI2 Polar as available, but out of stock:

$1999 seems like a good price for a new TI2 Desktop:

For comparison, this is what Sweetwater does when a synth is truly discontinued:

All of that said, it seems likely that the Virus will be discontinued soon. If so, it had a great run. I’m pleased that I had a chance to own a TI2 Keyboard and now a desktop TI1. I just got a Hydrasynth keyboard, and while it lacks the multitimbrality of the Virus the Hydrasynth engine itself is mind-bendingly powerful. I’ll hold on to my Virus and Blofeld for now, but it’s clear that the future is here.

Good point, edited with a question mark. Thanks

the whole M56k DSP chips line is EOL, so even if that’s not true yet, it will be discontinued in the foreseeable future anyway.

Pouring one out for Motorola itself, as well.

Is this news? I assumed due to lack of updates and lack of production that the TI has been long discontinued

Is the whole company leaving or are they perhaps releasing something new?

It’s also Kemper, they are doing extremely fine.

Yeah this, they just shifted focus over to kemper. Website still mentions Access Music, but the business address and all that is Kemper

Don’t know if there’s much company left in the name Access Music, or if it’ll be shut down completely now that the only access products are potentially being discontinued. Last i heard of it they had no plans for new synths

I got a Blofeld and Virus TI2 Desktop last year as the writing was on the wall for the chips.

My guess is there won’t be another Virus for a very long time if ever.

Oh great, I didn’t know that, it would be very interesting if they maybe brought a new synthesizer onto the market because they discontinued their flagship. In my opinion, the virus is one of the best and most popular synthesizers ever.

May I ask which of the two do you use the least?

I use the Virus more. Also the multimode is much more obvious on it.

True or not, this is totally unsurprising - given the total lack of updates for quite some time and an increasing shortage of chips, it was only a matter of time. I would have been infinitely more surprised (and pleased!) if they’d announced a proper successor.

pouring one out.
Hanging on to my snow forever.
Virus C was my first synth ever, and had a Ti2 desktop for awhile.
I cant imagine living without one even though its rarely used these days

I think the correct phrasing would be “taken off life support”.

I thought it had died many years ago
Plus that emulator is pretty good

I just checked their website and couldn’t find anything that indicated that the Virus was being discontinued.
Where does the “being discontinued” info come from?

Second hand info from a reseller. Could be legit.

Maybe, but until I hear it from Access, I’m going to assume it’s just gossip. What the hell, I’ve already waited over six years for the software to be updated. If it turns out to be true, I’ll just have to stash the USB and get a MIDI cable and a couple of audio cables and run the audio in the external input on one of my Elektron machines.
