Hey fellow Elektronauts,
My family and I are in the process of moving our lives from Berlin to Rio de Janeiro. Of course that brings the question up what to do with all my gear (I have a bunch like many of us). Originally I was going to ship it once we receive our resident permits there, but I’ve learned that Brazilian customs would likely consider any such shipment as commercial import (rather than as personal belongings), which would mean a hefty import tax to bring all the gear in. So now I’m wondering whether selling (most) of it and then rebuying in Brazil wouldn’t be the better strategy.
But I’m not sure if some of the gear/brands I love and would hate to part ways with (Dreadbox, Vermona, Twisted Electrons, Waldorf, DSI/Sequential and of course Elektron to name a few) are readily available in Brazil and if so at what cost/how much of a markup?
Any Brazilians on the forum that could help me understand their local market better so that I can make a more educated decision? What are some of the retailers that y’all recommend for audio gear?
I’ve already started selling some stuff I know I can live without, but things like my Iridium Keyboard, MegaFM mk1, my Dreadbox synths, my Vermona Mono Lancet and a few boutique FX pedals I’d struggle to be without. Plus my Elektron gear (DT, ST, DN, OT) I want to keep/replace there if possible. I also have two Apollo X8 interfaces with two Behringer ADA800s and an old Mackie mixer for my inputs and outputs. I don’t love any of them dearly, but selling them would probably mean selling them at a heavy discount…I suspect this would be true for most gear (we wanna move in Dec). I have a bit of Pioneer/Toraiz gear (SP16 & AS-1), a Maschine+ and a bunch of midi gear (Roli Seabord, Linnstrument 128, a Faderfox unit and a Presonus Faderport8) which I’d also love to keep but I can imagine these things will be easier to find anywhere in the world really.
Any tips/impressions/insights will be welcome!
Obrigado gente!
