I’m not sure what’s gotten into me but I made full-fledged editors for the Yamaha TX81Z and TQ5 in Max. They handle every function remotely (other than the sequencer in the case of the TQ5) and do a lot of fun and hopefully handy stuff as well.
Hosted on Patreon but will always be free (still gotta wrap my head around the platform in case anyone wants to send a few bucks)
Included:
- voice editor (no way!)
- librarian (bundled with many patch banks found online). Memory dumps can be made in either direction. Even partial, targeted dumps to the unit are possible (for ex: dumping a small block of 5 sounds starting at slot I21 on the TX is possible).
- performance/multi mode editor
- microtuning editor (TX81Z only; bundled with the entire Scala library - that’s ~5355 scales which can be sorted by length and bookmarked). Different scales can be applied to as many as 8 different areas of the keyboard, which offers interesting performance mode possibilities.
- effect editor (the TX81Z comes with 3 possible effects, the most complex of which is the chord one, hopefully made clearer here; TQ5 has its own completely different FX block)
- program map (presets can be saved)
- randomizer: can affect any and every voice parameter and triggered via CC
- CC mapping: self-explanatory. I’ve opted to give each operator its own MIDI channel for quicker mapping and memorization
- Of course, this comes with its own preferences. The color scheme for most windows can be customized.
Shared as an .mxf file, made with Max 8 for macOS.
(There is one feature that makes reference to the file path - where the scales and patch banks need to go - so if a Windows version is to be made I’d have to know what to change it to.)
Forthcoming:
Editors for these Boss multi-effects units:
SE-50
SE-70
VF-1
As well as an editor for the Kawai XD-5 (accepts microtonal scales in kit mode)
