Still in the midst of my most productive phase ever, and the key is that Note’s always there when there’s a bit of dead time, and so quick to get something going. Instead of firing up my gear at the desk once a week, most stuff’s getting done at bus stops or other times I would’ve probably just been doom scrolling
For me the randomised sounds are a great antidote to option paralysis and to explore directions I wouldn’t usually go. And the 8-scene / 8 track limit is perfect for getting some quick structure and focus.
I’ve checked out so many portable devices in the past, which are alright for long journeys, but the reality is I’m unlikely to carry them around all the time waiting for 5 or 10 minutes here and there. M8 is tiny enough…might try that at some point for variety. But yeah…Note and a pair of wired earpods that live in my pocket (non-starter on bluetooth). Been a revolution.
Is there any way to add a whole library of samples to Note ? I see it has a ‘user library’ but couldn’t find a way to add to it … looks like that’s meant for cloud sync with Live or something ?
Question: Did I overlook something or doesn’t Ableton Note react on incoming MIDI Clock / Transport messages? There’s Ableton Link, but the Digitakt doesn’t really provide that. It would be nice to get tempo / transport sync with Ableton Note, I think it makes a nice addition for polyphonic sounds.
Latest beta includes Drift full control. This will be a gamechanger for who loves to have more control on the sound design aspect.
If this will be ported to the Move too, well, it will make happy a lot of people
Note 1.5b1 (21-07-2025)
Introducing full Drift access in Note!
Full Drift access will come as an In-App Purchase to Note later this year.
Beta-testers can test full Drift access by expanding the tab of the Drift device with the ‘>’ button.
You can find presets that use the Drift device with the new filter feature.
Purchases done in the beta via TestFlight are not being charged to a users account as they are for testing purposes only.
New:
Drift: You can access and purchase Drift via the Drift icon in device view (b1)
Drift: Expand to get full access to all of Drift’s parameters via the device view (b1)
Browsing: You can now filter all presets by device type for instruments via the filter button (b1)
Settings: Added option to “Restore Purchases” to the settings view (b1)
Woah. If Ableton is serious about adding instruments and effects from Live with full control on iPad, I’m about to have a lot of iOS apps that can get deleted.
Full Drift access is pretty cool. Works pretty decent as well UX wise. 4 Euros for an upgrade is not too bad, but I wonder if it’s worth it if you just sketch in Note. I can edit everything eventually in Suite anyway.
The only thing I’m ambivalent about is that between Live, Push, and Note, there are now three completely different user interfaces for Drift. I was kind of hoping this would at least be closer to the Push UI.
That aside, it’s huge to get real sound design in Note, and the (eventual) price tag is more than reasonable.
Finally got round to checking out the new note beta last night, TBF I’ve been feeling a bit of mug since offloading my move watching all the great updates but now theres feature parity between move and note I have zero regrets… latest beta is a solid update indeed…
