I have just accepted that I just don’t like Drift, so I stopped trying to get anything out of it.
That’s a shame. It’s like being able to create instant synths.
I quite like it. At first I thought it was a bit basic but after using it to create a few presets I realise it’s quite flexible. It sounds a lot better than the Circuit synth.
I have #2 but now I want #3! FYI in the US it’s this one
I’m not interested in enhanced MIDI capabilities or USB-C audio sampling on the Move. It’s not the central piece of my setup, and I prefer sampling through analog.
It’s probably because people don’t realise you can do FM with Drift.

Damn.
Thought it would fit
does anyone know what’s going on with the lights here? at first i thought it was projection mapping but he moves the grid a couple of times in the video. and i asked him about it in a comment on the video but i did not get a response…
How? I know the LFO goes up to audio range but can you make one oscillator modulate the frequency of another? I have not figured out how to do that.
You are turning the LFO into a regular audio rate oscillator and using it to modulate the frequency of oscillator 1. Use the ratio parameter to adjust.
Okay, that I did know about. Thanks! I thought there was some secret inter oscillator FM feature I had not found. One of things I like about Drift is the audio range LFO. The Korg Monologue has a similar range for it’s LFO, it makes for some interesting sounds.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I found that I can trigger all 12 tracks on my Syntakt using the pads on Move when set to the key of D# chromatic and going to the lowest octave. The. left most pad plays track 1 and so on…clock sync and transport are working smoothly as well, a great pairing!
I got this to work pretty well. I made the sample as short as possible using shift to get the “length” parameter, and set it to the lowest non-zero number (0.8% in this case).
Then I used set the Loop FX to a very short loop, and adjusted the hold and decay to taste. Added some reverb and filter envelope and it sounds rad.
Is it a decent replacement for Push as a midi controller for Live?
Replacement? No.
Good (cheaper, smaller, etc.) alternative? Definitely!
Depends on what you use the Push for. It doesn’t have MPE or a screen, which makes it way worse for Simpler. But it’s probably the best small pad controller for Ableton that I have used.
Decision has been made, I’m keeping case #3. It convinces me the most.
I’ll invest the saved money in an original Ableton case at some point Then I can use the old case for my JD-08, which fits in there too.
Hm that’s the worry I had, and why the “just resample to pad” does not work if the idea is to expand and finish in live.
I surely hope they address enough that it becomes viable as more then a sketchpad. Better midi, LFOs, audio tracks (since sample can only play 1minute the recording to pad is also to cumbersome, even if it theoretically can do 4 minutes), a more solid sequencer, and some nice things like sidechains, more options for live looping (like fixed length recording), maybe a granular engine.
By that point I could get to 70% and then it’s fine.
But I have already enough possibilities to do loops, building more then that outside of the bot is what I need, and currently it’s to limiting for that.
Drift sounds awesome, so many interesting tones to find in a rather simple synth.
