Ableton Move : User Thread

Precisely. I don’t have much to share right now and most of the common questions have been answered at least once. I’m too busy playing it to bother posting about it.

Aaaaah, there needs to be an additional instrument rack inside around the synth

Cool, will try that! Muchos thankosyousos!

Yeah diagram is up here, or honestly just download the template they have on there https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/15616909965596-Presets-on-Move#h_01J7JX8NF6XYJ97YZKYP6M1XRD

Well there you go haha, turns out i read that one way too quickly when i read up on this and just wrapped the whole thing in one

Was in a rush to find out about sneaking wavetable presets onto the device :joy:

Reading the discord there it seems like adding simpler to drum racks would answer a high percentage of the top feature requests.

Yeah even if they give us a lite version of simpler I’ll be super stoked, it’s way fun already and simpler will kick it up a notch more… a cut down beat reapeat fx would be up there on my wish list too…

and how did the discord feel about that idea?

I keep wondering what’s possible.

One big thing for me was understanding this is a different framework. Getting anything on to Move requires rebuilding the effects/instruments for the Note/Move platform and then the team would make decisions on what to leave out/keep, as seemingly anything will be a cutdown version compared to Live.

I think on the whole the AMA team were really positive about addressing the top voted feature requests, obvs they were totally unable to commit to anything in the moment, but the take away for me was that they’re really invested in making it the best it can be whilst maintaining a rock solid user experience, can’t really ask for more than that imho, it was really good to have some direct contact with the people that make this stuff possible…

Simpler can’t be any more resource intensive than drum sampler, probably less so.

Cut it down to 16 slices, drop some of the options if needed to make it work in the UI.

I don’t want to sound like I think this would be necessarily … simple … to square with the Move ethos and interoperability with Live. My bet is that it’s already well advanced just wasn’t quite ready for launch.

Seeing a bunch of people coming up with ways they think slicing could work and all I’m thinking is “you mean simpler lite in drum racks”.

Honestly, if they do this or something close my MPC and probably digitakt are going and Move is coming in for sure. Because in any case what I want from a box like this is to work up the basics of an idea in samples and get into the finer points in a DAW anyway, if I could do this within a relatively seamless Ableton ecosystem it’d cover all the bases.

After much pain and suffering here is the entire set of Abelton Stock Drift Plugins in Move: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qD5GQbvw5wOXWOP6X__hf-jo4sUPGKEh/view?usp=sharing All effects have been set to Reverb and Delay and the Macros are Filter Cut Off, Resonance, LFO Amount, LFO Speed and ADSR of Envelope 1. Because of this some of the plugins will sound different. I would say about 15-20% will have a noticeable difference. Additionally I removed all the MPE data so the plugins that started with MPE now have EXMPE at the end of the file name. I tried to make this as uniform as possible but also being reasonable with my time. It took about 45 seconds a plugin and there are almost 200 so it was definitely a labor of love but I did not want to hoard it. That being said, if anyone wants to buy me a coffee or something I won’t say no! If you find any errors let me know and I will fix them. If anyone has any packs they want converted I can video my process if you want. Perhaps we can make a repo full of Move ready material. I am gonna chill for a bit myself and make some tunes! Enjoy!!

ended up returning Move, great product, but the 4 track limit was exactly that for me, “but it has up to 64 slots via drum racks”, the drum slots are monophonic and recording into a drum slot you have to sacrifice at least one of the tracks to record a polyphonic instrument or melodic sampler into the slot.

I’m not sure Ableton are interested in adding more tracks though as it didn’t appear to be acknowledged in the AMA, I’ll keep an eye on it and if it gains a few more tracks I might jump back in… we’ll see.

Shame it didn’t gel with you but that’s life! We can’t all gel with the same type of gear  at least you could return it with minimal effect on your spend

Yeah, I doubt it’s ever going to be more than it is today. Wouldn’t mind being wrong, but they were pretty clear about wanting it to be the product we have now.

Even the roadmap seems focused on bugs.

I don’t expect it be for everyone. I actually like how this works with just 4 tracks, but I have Push 3SA. My laptop is also never far, so what this does fills a little gap I have with something quick .

Oh definitely, there’s much gear I’ve tried and gelled with, but I did like the Move, it really was the lack of tracks for me, just hope it gains a few more tracks down the line, oh and usb sampling capability, be cool to sample direct from iOS apps etc.

Absolutely going to echo these, it works nicely as is for me (couple of things I’d like, explicit wavetable patch support etc), but these two would be sugar coating :ok_hand:t2:

It’s not about resource intensive per se… it’s that they need to build it up from scratch on a new software platform. Then they’d have make sure parameters they deem important are accessible without menu diving.

The only reason I don’t think it’s there already is because Drum Sampler was created just for Move, and replaced Simpler.

Right now I’m just hoping there will be an easier way to record from other apps into Note, and then import those sets on to Move. That would make my iPad more useful to me.

I’d still like audio over USB to sample.
