I totally agree. There’s only one other music device that’s this easy and as immediately inspiring for me, and that’s Koala. But Move is somehow even better, and like you say, it’s also a great controller.
I love Koala, and have written pretty good ideas with it. I’m also impressed with Note, so I’ve also integrated that into my ideas generating devices.
But hardware is just so damn appealing. I even like looking at Move, and daft as that sounds, it then makes me want to use it more. I don’t get that feeling with iPad apps. But when I’m away on holiday or whatever, I always take my iPad. So the combination of it all is just perfect.
It looks like I’ll be doing quite a lot of downsizing in 2025. Once I’ve gotten around to getting all my track ideas off my Novation Circuits.
It is possible to send MIDI out from the Move to the SP404MK2 via USB A. However, the Move cannot change the output channel or send CC messages; it can only trigger the pads on the SP404MK2.
I’m trying to get my Bass Station 2 hooked up to the Move. I’d like to use one of the Move tracks (track 4 by default) but I can’t get it to register on the BS2 side. I’m assuming that it transmits on midi channel 4, but that’s just a guess as I can’t see any detail in the manual about the specifics of midi out.
I checked the midi A port, as it feels weirdly loose, by trying a midi fighter to trigger midi in, and that worked perfectly.
I was also disappointed, even though the power figures look correct, that I can’t power the BS2 from the Move. Whether the Move is plugged in or running batteries.
I believe somewhere in this thread (or the other Move thread here, or perhaps the Discord) someone stated that it currently only transmits on channel 1 (haven’t tested this myself yet).
Perhaps this is another one of its wonderful “design limitations” to keep you focused!
Yes, it seems that the Move sends on Ch1 from any track, and this cannot be changed.
You can actually achieve this:
Using Note.
In Move, have your four tracks, sample one of them into a pad, mute the track you sample from. Now upload your set to cloud, sync your phone. Add another empty track on your phone, press and hold the track ”head” of the new track in the session view. This enables dragging it around to re-order. Drag it in front of the track you sampled.
If the track you sampled then gets pushed beyond the 4 track limit on Move then it is now effectively hidden. It will still be there and usable in Note, and you can reorder to bring it back and also to import into ableton.
You can then do this with 4 tracks total (Note limits)
Yep. Transmits on #1, can’t change that (yet?)
Annoying, as it triggers the launchpad pro currently focused sequencer track, but with other sequencers you just disable/avoid having #1 tied to anything and you’re good
You could also export the midi from Ableton lite and import it then to Logic.
I just want to clarify that both the move and my audio interface are plugged into the pc, I’m not trying to run audio out from move via usb into the mixer, what are you trying to achieve? Do you want to know if sets transferred from move still sound okay while working with a different audio interface? If so then yes, sets I’ve made on move and continued in live sound identical, no quality issues at all…
Yep, I would like to:
- transfer my set from Move to Live
- use Move as a midi controller in Ableton
- use my SP404mk2 as an audio interface
Sounds like it’s doable, from what I gather.
And yeah, I wanted to make sure that the sample rate change wasn’t gonna fuck things up.
Yeah my mixer is running at 24bit 44.1khz so you should be all good…
Move uses 44.1Khz sampling itself in stand alone mode, but does it do automatic sample rate conversion when you move samples to the device via the Move Manager?
Or does the user need to do that conversion themselves prior to adding samples?
So far the only pain point I’m having is dealing with re-sampling. It’s not a big deal but kind of a flow breaker to have to go and mute everything before I can resample.
If they made it so I can choose to sample either the master out or choose an individual track that would be nice.
I think the SP404 mk2 has resampling with fx as well added on the fly. Maybe a better option?
It’s not possible to set the notes of a step using an external MIDI keyboard
The corresponding pads light up, but the notes are not taken over into the pattern. What a disappointment.
I already own one of those though. And yeah, it works better on the 404 but getting projects off of it is a bitch compared to the move.
Hey, I made a little BassLine synth preset.
It’s basically a little 303 inspired monophonic synth, but with the additional drift waveforms. I also included the oscillator shape parameter for some extra flavour. I’ve limited the range of the parameters so you can tweak it like it’s 1987 and everything will stay in BassLine territory
Thought I’d share here…
BassLine.ablpresetbundle (2.3 KB)
For traditional 303 lines set all the steps lengths to 0.50. To add a Slide set the step length to 1.50. The best I could do for Accents was include a Vel->Cut parameter. Just crank this up and then adjust some notes to Vel 127 for a Cutoff boost.

Does move have class compliant audio over usb?
Is it recognized and can send audio to an iPad?
I’ve tried with a Bass station 2, a Nova and even with a class compliant usb to midi din device and I cannot for the life of me to get any sort of midi out working from my Move!
Midi in works fine and I can get my midi fighter working. But nada, zip, nothing on the midi out side!
Has anyone tried midi out on theirs?
