What about the sampling do you want to see improved? I personally like how streamlined it is. I almost couldn’t believe there weren’t extra steps involved when I first tried it. I was kinda just like…that’s it? Great!
To me one of the advantages of it is how self-contained the Move is, so there’s less appeal of adding something like a LaunchControl XL (though I did love using that with the Digitakt). There’s something to be said about focusing in one machine and just trying to push that to its limits, though I’m planning on pairing mine with my 404mk2 and just seeing how far I can get with those two machines. Mostly going to be running the Move into the 404 for the looper and master fx.
I am on the verge of buying an Ableton Move and would like to know, which Ableton LIVE Version, Intro, Standard or Suite, did you chose to use in your setup with Ableton Move, why and which features do you use in specific?
Still in love with it on my side (bought it on release). It’s far from perfect, but it’s extremely focused as a jamming/composition tool and quite a versatile swissknife in a wider hardware setup. I love to use it as a melodic sequencer with clip based workflow to complement an elektron box.
And capture is simply magical for improvised midi looping workflows.
I upgraded from standard Live 9 to suite 12. It has been a transformative experience. Highlights of suite include Roar distortion and Wavetable synth. Hybrid reverb is also amazing. For Move specifically, I really like Map8, which is a Max4Live device that lets you control multiple track parameters in a single rack. If you can swing it, I think suite is the way to go.
By the way, I use Push 3 at work and think Move (at home) totally holds its weight. I don’t ever really use Push’s browser and while the MPE pads and display are cool, it’s not something I miss (especially because Move’s knobs are capacitive). Only thing I wish Move had when controlling Live is 16 pitches in drum rack. It has it in standalone so it’s weird that it’s omitted when controlling Live.
I still love my Move, I have gotten a lot of use out of it. One reason as to why there may not be more videos of people jamming could be because it’s one the most direct grooveboxes to get tracks into a DAW to finish. It’s really quick to get idea going and fleshed out, then just send it to Ableton and finish it off. No time for jams when the finish line is in sight!
i thoroughly enjoy the Move as well. the way capture works and then being able to chose bars from that is fabulous.
i’m surprised there’s not more jams too. Holdmybeer has a point. there’s also no performance effects, which can be fantastic on other gear (op-z etc). but one can make music fast with it! i love finger drumming with note repeat. also the auto save prevents me from wanting to go crazy on parts i already like, but duplicating sets can get around that. an elektron like state save and live recall thing would be great.
everytime i use the move i think about buying another one.
Very happy with my Move as well, but (IMVHO) it’s not really all that oriented towards live jamming sets like I typically prefer to do with my groove boxes. No easy way to say access volume for more than one track at a time, using Drum Racks for more than 4 tracks means muting sounds on different tracks is a little bit of a finger dance, and as mentioned the fact that autosave is always on can catch you out if you forget to copy your sets to new locations before you start tweaking things.
I’m sure it’s all doable, but it’s a bit more convoluted than I like for playing live with just one box.
Yeah, love my Move as well (but c’mon, bring mono sampling + crop, dammit…). But it’s indeed a bit meh in the jam department… I think most of the users follow the Move ethos and jump in Live to finish their tracks, hence the lack of flashy jams with little plants on youtube.
Yeah, I see what you guys are saying regarding auto-save. It would be nice if that was a feature that you could turn on or off. Or if there was a save / recall function like on Elektron Digis. That option could be in the Setup menu and then Shift + Trig 12 could be save and Shift + Trig 13 could be recall. Ableton, are you listening?!
I use a loooot of old funky drum breaks with stereo field all over the place. Sometimes, the drums are paned all the way left etc. Same for sampling old records…
I’m guessing there isn’t, but does anyone know if there’s a way to display / use the Delay time in milliseconds as opposed to number of 16th notes? Would be cool if shift plus knob 1 in the Delay effect let you change between the two modes.
If you want to record or sample something like a guitar or a synth with a mono output you need a special cable. Which is fine, I bought one but now I have to only use that one special cable which is dumb. Why not just let us choose Ext In L or Ext In R or sum the stereo channels to mono? Would save disk space too.
It depends on the preset. Some are tempo synced and some aren’t iirc. If you start from one that shows ms then you can change the other settings to what you want

I will say, I do sometimes wish the knob assignments stayed the same regardless of preset, even though that would limit your sonic choices. Makes it hard to remember what does what when they are constantly changing.
I’ve only just got my Move but 100% I’m hoping a future firmware update brings MIDI CC. I’m working on how to integrate it into my Digitakt II centred setup and it would open the door to a much better integration.
I just checked and “Basic Slapback” is the first preset in the list that is set to ms rather than tempo synced. The tempo synced ones just all appear first in the list alphabetically because they have names that start with 4th or 16th.
As far as I can tell though other than time being ms vs tempo synced, all of the other macro assignments are the same across all of the delay presets. Still I don’t find it the easiest device to develop muscle memory with. It’s pretty much hunt and peck and tap all of the encoders each time to see what’s what.
