Ableton Move : User Thread

i love mine - you can configure it with the desktop app to route any inputs to any number of outputs (including the 3 USB MIDI ins and outs), and apply filters, mapping, transpositions, etc. It’s a nice little box for 50 bucks!

It would be cool if you could swap tracks per scene.

If you plan to uae it with trs midi for pedals and wanna save the hassle of buying adapters you could also look for the Strymon Conduit.

what if you couldn’t slice pizza, would pizza be nearly as popular… I don’t think so

I think people would eat smaller pizzas.

but how small does a whole pizza have to be to not need slicing?

Hmmm. I think sandwich size should do it.

that’s a good size, but probably not going to encourage as many pizzas to be made for that small of a return… I dunno, depends on how good it is I suppose…
I don’t think the ableton Move should chance it, I think they should go with adding extensive sample editing features, only of course if the majority of their base would appreciate it.

16 slices is about all I’d need.

Autofilter just landed in the beta and it’s silly good on this box.

Sorry is there new firmware out?

also midi out right too?

Its the beta firmware, its public so you can get to it from move.local in your browser

MIDI Out and Midi In , for both sync and tracks, which is cool. Looks like you can decide on each track if they are midi in or midi out independently, but I haven’t tested that yet.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think even six tracks would make a difference but four is just not enough for proper experimentation.
Making for bar tracks to “finish” in Live is getting old when after four tracks are occupied you feel you haven’t even really started…

Is that via usb a port or usb c only?

I’ve only ever used midi out over usb-a, so I assume in will work that way also.

Re tracks, I think there’s a fundamental here that they’ve said pretty clearly it’s not getting more so it is what it is. Personally, I don’t find it limiting at all, but I guess it depends on what you’re trying to do. For a long time I was enjoying the preset roulette thing and just knocking together a rough rhythmic or melodic idea and moving on.

If it only did this I’d still be good with it, but I’m getting a lot of joy recently out of using it as a sampler for material coming from the P-6, 404 or iPad. 64 samples is more than I’ll ever need - 32 plus two synths or melodic tracks is probably my sweet spot. Or tbh 16 + 3 is often plenty. I think it makes a really nice composing/sequencing hub for other gear that’s better on manipulating sound, which isn’t its strongest suit necessarily. Although there are worlds in just the Resample and Vowel filter modes for experimentation. I feel like it’s turning into a pretty decent little sampler slowly but surely - obviously slicing is the missing link though.
