I thought that too but am currently not unhappy about the length setting as it also considerably speeds up slicing when working with more or less uniform chops. No need to adjust the endpoint all the way just fiddle with the length a bit until the chop ends the way you want it to.
Bit like moving the play selection on a new pad in Koala Sampler instead of dragging the start and end point…
I think for oldschool manual chopping, it really works well:
I have a slice but even though I adjusted the length, it goes only so far back if that makes sense. Like I can’t go any further shortening it via length and there’s still some residue left from the slice.
I found this on move facebook and cracked up laughing at the warning The idea of move is to bring it outside or anywhere, yet in the manual it says “for indoor use only” haha or the flat service part lol, like most will be using this on their laps! And what is with the 45 degree angle? What will happen if you don’t? lol
I don’t see this edition. 1.2 is still the single panel, and it’s the only option listed among downloads. Is that the latest?
Gotta give it a go on the push standalone! This could truly round out my performance template. …
Also, doesn’t seem to work for me in control mode. Is this only standalone? Followed the instructions for main channel, seeing as that’s the last version posted. Placed before a few audio effects. Not automatically detected. Adjusted the number to reflect how many are after it. Hit refresh. Selected Punchline in device view. Opened the device view for Punchline in device view. Tried the Move edition, seeing as this must only be referring to control mode. Tried with devices. Tried with group devices (such that variations would correspond to its design). All the same inert symptoms.
Is there a means of getting in its punch mode, which the instructions left out? SHIFT+NOTE mode, for example?
No pad takeover. No control of I/o of trailing devices.
Hi, i´m sorry you´re having problems. Does the Usermode Button go dark if you place Puchline onto the Main track? It should, if you then press it,Punchline will take over the Matrix. Please let me know.
I think I read that you cannot currently send MIDI from iPad directly to Move.
I’ve hooked up a Novation Launch Key and a Roland J-6 and both worked flawelessly but I’ve had no luck with an iPad.
It would be pretty cool to be able to sequence the Move with some of the iPad sequencers but I have not been able to figure it out.
It’s really simple but you will need a usb Bluetooth midi dongle for the move or a usb midi interface for each device like the cme u2midi or similar…
Edit: literally just had some great fun messing around with the Rozeta suite sequencers and a looping break. Endless possibilities really…
Interesting article on the Ableton website on "strategies for unlocking creative flow and how these ideas played a pivotal role in shaping Ableton’s latest product, Move:
No, it doesn’t go dark. Pressing User mode button, which is lit as usual, just causes the entire layout to go unmapped and dark.
Also, I’d be conflicted with using this device as a dedicated solution to user mode. I’d probably pass on it entirely.
That was posted Jan 28th. You sure we’re all looking at the same version on the published product page?
Don’t worry, I can map the button to whatever you‘d prefer. Don’t give up on it, it works just fine for a lot of people, it’s great fun. Please send a message through Bandcamp, if you like, we sort out your problems via Messenger like WhatsApp.
Regarding the update, it’s done and will be updated within the next days.
Cheers!
Thanks, Dibek I’ll look out for you on bandcamp/whatsapp, as you’ve requested. I’d only clarify here that it’s not a matter of giving up on it. It’s a matter of getting it to work. The language around getting it to function needs to be specific, illustrated, and accurate. The syntax can’t be interpreted incorrectly or it’s just going to be a dud. Your current “read me” says nothing about how to engage punchline. It simply states that you add the device, and it works. If it’s a takeover/key combination, it needs to reference the same terms that ableton uses. A video run through works as well.
Actually it’s true, the currently available version does need no interaction with the device other than to put in the main track, i accidentally referenced the not yet released new version. This is vital, it won’t work on any other tracks than main.
The reason I didn’t update the device yet is because I’m working on the manual for the new, expanded version.
Also, Bandcamp isn’t correct, it’s gumroad and from there you can contact me, thanks!
I discovered that when using the Move to control Ableton Live, if you set up Macros in your M4L devices using live.banks (same way as you do for the Push 3) then you don’t need to create groups.
Downloaded some presets but unsure where to put them?. I got it connected but wanted to make sure in case I muck up something
Do we have new info in regards to audio/midi tracks, and support of non 4/4 time signatures?
I guess it’s still to early if those where to come to expect them.
Also:
Is note on the iPad with an audio interface 95% of move in regards to experience, or is the UI a big difference in workflow? Would be interested to give it a try, but trying all iPad apps that people recommend could cost me a pretty penny.
Hi, haven’t checked on this gear since I sold mine about 2 months ago.
Did they add pattern chaining?
I think the crux is how you phrase the question. For me, 95% of the experience IS that I can touch something real. And in that sense, Note is 5% of the Move ;).
If you’re asking about workflow, it’s the same in all the ways that matter.
Fair. I got my iPad back and seeing that my soundcard now works with it (no idea what changed) I was gonna try some iPad forkflow.
Mainly: I’m still lacking a “centerpiece” for framing a track before moving it to a full on daw.
Move is missing midi and audio track functionality (and no, I don’t see a drum pad as an alternative, with it’s limitations for dedicated hardware) and a better midi implementation.
Octatrack is overkill and expensive.
iPad is to close to phones and pcs, but since I have it I thought of giving it a try, seeing if it’s okay for granular (not happy with hardware options) and multitrack recording and light editing.
(Essentially: do I buy a zoom l-6 and iPad, or a move in the future, or something else entirely)
All that to say: if I try note for 10€, is it reflective on it I’ll like move.
