twas the last move video the director of design put out, so they know there is a market for a push mini, whatever they do I’m sure it will be interesting
Wouldn’t MOVE be the push mini?
oh man like 8 tracks would be amazing…the problem is I have not had a battery powered object in a long time and ableton note isnt for me…
nope, The Move is the Move, not to be confused with anything else…
they are adamant about not tampering with what people love about the Move.
but… they are aware of the folks who don’t want a Move and don’t want a Push, and they specifically said there will be more inbetween and not to fret.
personally I’m here for it, it’s 2025 the more shiny happy people the better!
I would love to say yes but for me the Move is a little bit heavy for this use case. It boasts a seriously lush build quality, which means the case is made out of metal and so the whole thing is rather hefty. I typically plop it on the desk or sometimes on top of my bed.
And I don’t know about you, but I get sort of uncomfortable using these types of devices on public transit. I’ve noticed lots of curious glances when messing with an OP-1 and a K.O II on the subway, but I’m also pretty self conscious.
The Move is still perfect for holidays tho – hotel rooms, camping trips, etc etc.
For a train commute the only device that has truly worked for me is a Polyend Mini. It looks like a gameboy and everyone assumes that’s what it is, so curious looks are kept to a bare minimum. It’s also super light weight.
Just my .002.
edit: I totally ignored the part where you stated importing into DAW would be a factor for you – and if that is the case, then the ease of doing so might outweigh the above gripes I have with it, since it is incredibly quick and seamless to do that. just know that once you mess around with it inside Live proper, you can’t send it back to the Move.
Portable, Mobile, Handheld…
there is money to be made in all three catagories and thanks to the Synthstrum Deluge, the M8, the MPC live, the Model Samples, the Novation Circuits, the Polyend Trakers, and the Move… Devs know the difference and are responding
I think it’s important to listen to the people that love what you do, the Move has a sweet spot, Ableton doesn’t want to fudge that up… I respect it
Can you link to the source?
I tried the move on the M from Broadway and 74th queens to Central Ave in BK. Practically worked out an entire sketch. I got at least 2 people asking about the thing, and yes some stares, but it was a crowded train, so no one marked me. Normally, I’d reserve this time for a book, but didn’t have one. The conversations were very welcoming and friendly.
The upside is that you can do a lot of the workflow with your eyes on the horizon and with it kind of discrete if you cross your legs. It ties in with the comment I wrote above. There’s an article on the Move from an accessibility standpoint, and I think we all have something to gain from moving around the move without requiring the visual feedback

“So where are we in 5 years? - I don’t think it’s ever possible to successfully speculate about the future, but I can talk about my current bet: I think there will be different Ableton products that are really well adapted to different contexts and stages of music making. You will pick the one that suits you for where your mind currently is. I assume there will be more portable, focused products with a gentler learning curve, and others that give you a lot of deep and rich expression, and at the end of the spectrum you can make your own instruments completely from scratch with Max/RNBO.”
1.3.0 is out
You can now use USB-C as an input source for sampling on Move. This allows you to sample the audio from a connected computer, smartphone, or tablet. For example, you can play a song on your phone and record the audio into a drum pad on Move. Or, you can play a synth on your tablet and record the audio into the Melodic Sampler.
To sample audio from a device, it must be connected to Move via its USB-C port. Devices with USB-C ports typically work with a USB-C cable alone, while phones or tablets with a Lightning port require an adapter and must also be connected to a charger when sampling. You can read more about this in this Knowledge Base Article
Other Improvements
- You can now solo tracks by pressing and holding the Shift and Mute buttons simultaneously and then pressing a track button.
- Longer entries in the browser, such as sample or preset names, now scroll on the display so that the full name is visible.
- When used as an audio interface, Move now defaults to outputting its internal microphone and line-in. Move’s main output can still be selected in Setup however, doing so will disable Move’s speaker when a USB-C cable is connected
- Move now sends out polyphonic aftertouch when set to MIDI Out, which lets you play expressively when using external MIDI controllers.
- A wider selection of presets is now used when creating a new Set.
- Uploads to Ableton Cloud are now faster.
- Triggered one shot samples and long release note phases now stop when playback stops and when clips are retriggered. Additionally, an “All Sound Off” MIDI message (CC 120) is sent to the MIDI output.
This one sounds contradictory. It says the Move sends poly aftertouch, but also works with external controllers. Hopefully it’s both!
Ah some nice updates in there. Thanks for flagging
I really wished for Midi Clock and X Channel, that USB-C audio is surely a ++ but for me the Midi x Channel and espcially Midi Clock is Vital if I have to sync the Move to an hardware without Computer
update: Although with a USB to Midi DIN Cable I can set MOVE to be the Master Clock to my Digitone
Ableton Move 1.3.0 is out! Might be most excited for the longer names scrolling in the menu…
Already posted!
Sweet, nice couple additions
It is contradictory
It either accepts after touch from ext midi or sends it to ext sound modules
There are other typos, so I suspect they were burning the midnight oil
I wonder if this includes usb mics? And maybe move supplies enough plugin phantom power. How about a synth that sends audio over usb? Like the Typhon? What else fits this niche?
I had only partial success with a mic that takes a AA. And my thunderbolt phone is not something I’d throw money at.
Is there a way to adjust the filter amount over 4 bars in a drum rack? Eg hold bar 1 and 4 and adjust filter level
Doesn’t seem to work on the filter page, it jumps back to main bank
Might be a Bug or overlooked possibly
If you bookend a selection like that, you are changing a parameter for the steps selected
This is intentional behavior, as each clip can have different baseline values
A change in filter is automation you record. It’s going to be a manual sweep on the encoders
