Ableton Move: Schwung (Custom synths and FX)

Yes, but right now scene snapshots are global, so you’d need to just have a channel be the control channel. Per-slot state saving is just a little too much UX right now. I’m working on some automation stuff right now though so will be sure to think about PC in this batch.

I recently added full CC control to Schwung modules with learning, as well as custom layouts for Oxi E16 and Faderfox EC4 so you can navigate all modules, or build your own pages for a control surface. While Move modules don’t respond to CC, you can now control all Schwung modules pretty easily.

That plumbing also means though that we can now do fun stuff like automation, P-locks, probability and Octatrack style scene morphing!

Each set has 16 A and 16 B states, and 16 scenes of A/B pairs. You edit the states, and can use the jog wheel from the scenes page, map CC to the crossfader, or us a global shift+volume turn shortcut to have a global crossfader morphing between states. It’s super fun!

@ex I added PC to this so CH16 PC0-15 change your scenes. In conjunction with the fader CC, you can load a sene and set it to the A state, for instance. I also added support for the global snapshots with PC127 (recall) and PC126 (save snapshot).

New in 1.6:

:railway_track::control_knobs: Track Automation

  • Schwung tracks can now have automation. Turn a knob while the transport is recording, and it will record your movements.
  • Hold a step and turn a knob, and it will p-lock on that step
  • Hold a step, hold delete and touch that knob to delete its automation, or clear from the slot settings.
  • Automation is associated with clips, all the copy / paste / dupe / etc should work as you expect

:stop_sign::level_slider: Scenes and Morphing Crossfader

  • A new “Scenes” page accessed with shift+step3 hold (or shift+vol+step3 allows for setting up 16 A and 16 B states with 16 scenes of A/B pairs
  • Hold a scene to enter edit mode, go move some knobs, come back and tap again to exit
    • Or use global shift+down (Scene A) or shift+up (Scene B) mode switches to edit from anywhere
  • Transition between the scenes with the jog wheel on the scenes page, map to an external CC
    • or use a global shift+volume shortcut for a built-in Octatrack-style scene crossfader

:bar_chart::game_die: Step Editor with Probability

  • Hold a step and press “Note/Session” to bring up the step editor
  • Set Probability (%, or modulo A:B) with jog, press “Note/Session” to navigate to length and velocity
  • Probability is ignored by Move synths

Tl;DR: Automation, Probability, Octatrack-style Scene Fader

Sorry if I’m slow, does this mean that you can swap between snapshots that have different modules loaded, like Virus emulator for example?

No, swapping modules wouldn’t be part of that, just the state of loaded modules

This is huge!

The recent updates have been amazing. Really liking the move towards more graphical controls. I hadn’t updated Osirus in a while and was pretty blown away by the new UI, both on the Move itself and remotely. Makes editing patches so much more approachable.

So many quality of life improvements in the recent Schwung OS update too. The settings page, preset management… it all feels super intuitive now. I’ve got a bunch of Elektron gear, so this UX direction feels right at home!

Really, really cool stuff. Schwung has added so much to my Move. Huge thanks to everyone working on it!

Can Schwung fx be used on Move’s Drift synth? If so, how?

Yes
