Ableton Move [Archived]

I mean, to be fair there are a whole lot of $5-$20 apps that blow $500-$1000 pieces of hardware out of the water in terms of functionality. Even sound quality.

Seems like Ableton had a site online that was indexed by Google and that would sell Move, Push and Push Upgrade. Itā€˜s been taken offline again.

The pixel art icons from the teaser reminds me of what Ess did for the Digitone and Model Cycles. What if this is a collaboration with Fors ? With Cenk now as a product engineer, would that be possible ? Imagine a groovebox with Opal and the other Fors VSTs…

Would be an interesting collaboration, for sure.

I wonder if Ableton would ask Cenk to demo the Move? Or maybe they would feel he’s too closely associated with Elektron? They seem to use a lot of different people to show the Push the past few years. Would be cool if he was at least part of the team that demos Move.

Imagine Cenk at Elektron:
ā€œhow cool it would be to have this all in one box with this and that and synths and samplers. ā€œ

ā€œNo. We need to sell them separately. ā€œ

ā€œI quit. I’ll go pitch the idea to the Germans ā€œ.

Let’s hope the Germans get it right.

The Push 3 is really a wonderful box. Having Simpler on it has really been Life changing from a Production stand point.

It’s definitely leaned on Elektrons style of icons and doesn’t ā€žOct 8ā€œ somewhat sound like Octatrack? To me it smells like a very streamlined Push as well… or a more powerful DT 2… but with a Fader. What if itā€˜s an OT MK3 but from Ableton? :slightly_smiling_face:

Just an FYI. The icons in the newest teaser video are the same icons used in the newest public beta for Note. This is 100% related to Note, be it a companion or a standalone device.

Ok, then Noteā€˜s icons are leaned on Elektronā€˜s style.

Thanks for the reality check, I needed that.

as a proof of concept I really hope ableton takes the risk of going as close to the form factor of the polyend tracker as you can see here as possible… you can see how functional the tracker is even at this size… ableton could even get away with adding reasonably spaced knobs and still be in this general idea of a form factor…

and if they pretty please with a cherry on top implement BPM per pattern/scene, and proper slicing it could be the kind of instrument people always keep in arms reach

the tracker managed 48 pads, ableton could even get away with larger pads and 64 of them and still be in this form factor real albeit a little larger… but the tracker clearly shows it’s beyond possible to make something in this realm work.

If I can try to sum up what we know so far:

  • There are pixelated icons in a new teaser
  • These icons correspond to icons in Note

While these facts could be interpreted multiple ways, the most obvious implications are:

  • Move is hardware with a screen
  • The screen is closer to an Elektron OLED than the Push LCD
  • Move’s workflow has commonalities with Note

Baseck posted a blurred out hidden protective device. It sounds good and FM based to me.

Could this be it? If so, I’m excited that it’s not as small as a m8 and not nearly as big as PUSH

That’s an Elektron device.

In that case, it must be Digitone 2! Wrong thread? I guess we shall see on 10/8

How do you know it’s an elektron device @alexbuga?

It’s pretty clearly just a plain old digitone
