Ableton Move [Archived]

Don’t know who’s that directed to, but why you HATE Ableton? They’re one of the most ethical DAW companies, their service / support is great, they’re active and proactive.

Yep I have it. I personally don’t enjoy it on the touchscreen that much. It’s very cool that you do though.

But like I said - If it was just a groovebox with Note, I probably would not have bought it. It’s #1 use for me will be as my MIDI controller for Ableton. But the huge bonus is now I also have Note and it’s 100x more tactile than me pounding on my phone screen.

Any chance you have a Push as well? Would love to know if Push and Move can both control Live simultaneously.

I did at one point, but sold it because it was too big for my desk space

Thanks. Hard to polemise with such astute and eloquent arguments.

Silly question but will itwork with other Daws?

Good Old Cenk (aka Dataline) has a move … hmmm

Maybe it’s answered before, sorry for that. But…

Can the Move connect directly to a iPad Pro M1? If yes : Can it transfer midi and audio both ways in AUM?

Define “work”. It can export the project as a rendered audio file. I’m unclear whether it can do multichannel audio via USB, like Elektron boxes can though. Probably not.

As a midi controller for plugins?

There is still no filter envelope, that is true…and the devs get testy at me when I bring it up on the 1010 forum haha so I’ve stopped.

But there definitely is, and always has been a filter with resonance control! Sounds pretty good too.

Also, you can assign like the sawtooth LFO to filter, play with the settings and “fake it” for an envelope that way, not quite the same as a filter envelope but it can sound good

Ah thanks. I’d describe them as succinct

Would you link this to digitakt via the USB-C port or the USB-A port then?

you would not sync it to the digi…you’d sync the digi to it…

Push required special scripts to be supported by Bitwig and Reaper, otherwise it wouldn’t work. I wouln’t get Move on the premise you’ll use it a lot as a controller. Maybe for Bitwig & Reper, if Moss gets his hands on one and there’s enough interest.

For music production on a phone / tablet… iOS is the default. There’s just so much more going on with iOS and Android is so far behind in that arena.

Part of it is with iOS there’s less devices to have to trouble shoot. Another part is iPhone users tend to spend more money on the App Store where Android users tend to value free apps… I know I’ve seen a video perhaps by Andrew Huang or someone else that showed that for many app developers it’s simply not worth developing for Android because they won’t make money and it’ll be more effort to bug fix.

Also apparently latency for audio is much worse on Android even on flagship phones compared to weaker iPhones.

So yeah, if we’re talking about music production and you cared enough to want to pursue it on a phone, iOS really is the default.

Also, found the video, it was Andrew Huang.

the more I watch videos about move the moreI think the omission of proper slicing to be very strange. The display is capable to show waveforms, the encoders for moving slice points are there… so what in the world let the made the decision to not include sample slicing. I mean this thing even has a built in microphone… hope they’ll fix this with an update

TE for OPZ, Yamaha for Seqtrack and FL Studio all have apps on Android. Its not as much as an excuse anymore. Also Note is a 9$ app, charge 10 on android. Ableton Android users would eat it up.

Not only does Cenk / Dataline have a Move, he is one of its developers.

Hardware manufacturing schedules can be very unforgiving. The factories serve many clients, so you don’t get to choose or move dates easily. And if you don’t have a working Firmware for your units by the time they’re made you’re in big big trouble - who’s going to re-flash all your units?
Because of this, companies often need to cut features for the initial release to ensure everything that does ship works bug-free (ideally)

Edit: no idea if they’re gonna do a slicing update, just a possible explanation why certain obvious features might be missing at launch (and why this is so common)
