Ableton Move [Archived]

You are flogging this dead horse amongst your other posts which are frequently being flagged - try to keep it civil and less cynical

It isn’t a simple $10 more situation because it’s been mentioned that this is based on a platform not a chip - they can’t pick and choose from different platforms when they are defined by a third party

This appears to host the Raspberry Pi-4 compute Module

@all please be gentle with the flagging or spicy comments

I might get one but I have to sell something first, however, I don’t think it makes sense to sell my push 2 to get the move

Yes, it’s Linux. Running on a CPU from 10+ year ago :frowning:

Has Ableton said either way about whether Max for Live devices can run on Move?

Doubtful.

Check my post directly above yours - it’s not powerful enough to run most native Live devices and M4L are multiple times more CPU demanding.

not a single mention, only selected core devices

This would have had parity with the rest of Ableton and Push. Horizontal session mode rather than vertical is a weird world for Live.

Stop it! Don’t be putting these thoughts in my head!

Yeah the Move ain’t for me but I get what they’re trying to do & I think a lot of folks will enjoy it. My point was that with proper MIDI I/O, CCs & the ability to separately sequence each of its tracks externally it would be an insane sound module for the price & I’d buy one in a milisecond.

yup, 100%

I missed some of the discussion above, you’re saying the instruments / synths can’t be sequenced with external midi? :frowning:

If that’s the case that’s a dealbreaker

I really hope they’ll be able to squeeze Meld and Roar in, even if they’d impose a limitation on using just one of them in the whole Set. Perhaps it would be possible to optimize the code, sacrifice some OSC or FX quality.

Also a device like Beat Repeat would be awesome to see and this one’s very old, so probably lightweight on the CPU.

Would be a good idea to maybe create a new thread called “Move Users”?

This thread is very much starting to look like the Push 3 thread after it’s release.

Could be nice to have a thread dedicated to experiences and ideas about using the actual device and then people that want to keep discussing why it’s not a good instrument can keep the party going here.

So far, the Move release has just made my desire for a Squarp Hapax stronger.

I don’t want to misinform so take it with a grain of salt, just skimmed the manual – my understanding is that you can play a track with a MIDI keyboard but only the one track that you’ve got selected on the device.

I’m really hoping there’s a way. If not I hope they consider a firmware update for assigning channels. Was really looking forwards to using this as a polyphonic synth/sampler with Elektron boxes

You can use the MIDI entry in the Setup menu to toggle between the MIDI In Only and MIDI Out Only options. If MIDI In Only is active, the currently selected track on Move will receive incoming MIDI. If MIDI Out Only is selected, you can set which of Move’s tracks will send out MIDI data.

another thing worth noting is the connected midi device compativility

Move can send and receive MIDI notes to and from class-compliant USB-powered MIDI devices. Low-speed and full-speed USB devices are supported, but not hi-speed USB devices such as Push. You can connect a MIDI device via the USB-A port on the back of the unit. When a MIDI device is connected, Move can supply it with up to 500 mA of power.

pretty sure not every midi device can work with it

I read here and there that the wavetable synth is only available in Live Suite. That means that move projects won’t open properly in the copy of Live Intro that is in the box? Pretty strange… :I

So I’m trying to get a full picture here. There’s 32 sets(songs.) Each set has 4 tracks, each track has 8 patterns and each pattern has up to 16 bars. The drum rack only has 16 samples but each sample can be played chromatically. You also get a synth and melodic sample playback engine. Is the sample player polyphonic? If yes what’s the voice count?

Fair point but it took me around two minutes to get used to it and it it isn´t even a problem when using Push and Move side by side. I didn´t even think about it anymore until today.

Move isn’t running live intro. Live intro is included with the purchase of Move
