Hello i will share my last experiment, i’m pretty sure now to go with Sync Gen II Pro or ACME4 for my Live. No chance to keep things in Sync with a computer for 1 hour and a half.
BUT/
I made some few test. Analog Rytm is Slaved Sync via MIDI and Ableton Live is Master. I send clock via USB cable to the AR
I have my MOTU 828x (USB i will made some test on Thunderbolt but not sure it change something, maybe difference in delay compensation, anyway.)
Of course, i start from scratch with a blank project. I find my MOTU is ok with 32 sample of buffer, i have no problem in my audio signal. Probably RME, MOTU and few expansive card will offer this great buffer. Nice because you start with a pretty small latency.
Try to record something small like a clave or rimshot, shorten the decay/release to finally have a kind of pulse, like a kick Four to the floor rhythm pattern. You can set one bar empty, like a pre-roll, it can help to have the first beat well recorded… if not you can retime it later. Why that, i think midi clock need an amount of time to be adjust to another so… Each time you will record something you can see the first beat is not perfect. Zoom on second of third beat to see how much is delay the sound and re-adjust it in the midi preference by adding half millisecond or more…
Pay attention each plugin, track you can add, will introduce latency, so value you find will progressively not match and you will need to readjust it.
If you want to share some of your experiment, i’m curious to hear you way of working
