Ableton Live 12

Strangely not here with Live 12b under Ventura. I say strangely because they acknowledge it :slight_smile: " Ableton Live: program changes are slower than expected for VST3 instruments in general, on both Windows and macOS. The slowness appears to be more noticeable for plug-ins with large numbers of automatable parameters, including wavestate native. On macOS, we suggest using the AU version of wavestate native as a workaround. Ableton is aware of this issue."

Very strange… I’m on Ventura as well (Mac M2 Pro Mini). :man_shrugging:

Other than this I’m really liking Live 12. Great update.

I’m using the beta for few months now, imac i5, monterey, I have lot of random crashes. Almost every time I start live, I see a crash report. Hope they solve these issuess before publishing live 12

I can’t even get the beta to start on my desktop Windows PC. Seems the reason is that my old CPU doesn’t support AVX2 instructions.

Live 11 still works perfectly though. :man_shrugging:

Search for ā€žmodulatorsā€œ, everything should be shown in Liveā€˜s new browser. Then hit the + sign and Ableton creates a link to your results in the sidebar.

Is Roar adding any latency to the project?

only in HQ mode and very little, 7 samples or 0.15ms

Roar is absolutely killer on guitar, especially with Ableton’s amp, and an IR loaded into the Hybrid Reverb.

Just for my understanding:
device latency in Live 12 is only relevant to a single track’s effects chain since we can now decouple latency compensation for each track from the general Live set, right?

I think that’s only for recording audio. If you could decouple latency compensation, then all your tracks would be out of sync with each other.

I think that’s how it works, anyway—it just discards latency corrections on incoming recorded audio, but only for the recorded audio.

I’m not sure. My understanding in regards to Live’s latency compensation is this:
the effective sum of all plugins latency is determined and each track get’s a certain delay to keep all tracks in sync.
You could have one audio track without any plugin and if you apply the ā€œMonitor Inā€ setting you would hear a delay in proportion to the latency compensation.
In Live 12 you should be able to turn off latency compensation per track, which means, acc. to my understanding, that each other track is handled as mentioned before, but your audio track could directly funnel the it’s input source with a minimum latency according to your audio buffer size settings.

Itā€˜s ā€šrealtimeā€˜, meaning you could sing or play instruments through this track live.

Don’t know everything about live 12 but at least for 11 it’s additional latency also when playing internal instruments. The amount of milliseconds from the plugin with the greatest latency is added to the overall latency or whatever you want to call it. It does not really matter much if it’s a production scenario as you can compensate for it or monitor on a different track then the one you record on.

However, I am playing pads and keys in realtime live and Push 3 standalone is already on the edge of what is tolerable for me when the audio inputs are active. Therefore I am mostly interested in the plugins without any additional latency. At least ideally:)

I’m therefore interested if there is any for Roar also wonder about Meld of course but I kind of assumed Meld would not have it as the other ā€œnewā€ synths do not.

Does anyone know? I will not upgrade to 12 Beta until the end of the month but I am very curious

some of my favorite max for live devices, namely Ircamax 1, dont seem to work anymore in Live 12 beta, neither rosetta or native…anyone still using these and made the same experience?
I’ve left feedback about it but doubt that is high on their priority list

i love the ircamax stuff, sure you can find alternatives for them…but they have this charm to them, they sound kind of messed up… love IM-VPSupersynth especially with its weird formant shifter

i find it a bit sad that they don’t bother to update these devices to at least be compatible properly…they haven’t been updated since 2015, often crash ableton or randomly stop working until restart and they are still available on the shop for 100€. same thing goes for stuff like geisterwelt, which straight up hasn’t worked properly since ableton 10 even

Could possibly be related to the updated version of Max that’s running with Live. You can tell Live whether you want it to run the version of Max that it comes bundled with, or from another version of Max that you also have installed. Have you tried setting Live so that it runs that other independent version of Max? Maybe from there you could try installing an earlier iteration of Max and see if it works in Live that way? Other than that im not sure

Trying out the public beta, and I have a couple of initial thoughts.

Firstly, so far no stability/performance problems, or anything noticeable like that. This is on a Windows 10 machine, Intel i9, 16GB of RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, etc. in case anyone cares.

Next, the popup mixer in the arrangement view is SUCH a massive workflow improvement. I freaking love this so, so much. Worth the price of admission all by itself, IMHO. The entire UI is just cleaner overall.

The new tag-based browser is great as well and works a treat for more rapidly zeroing in on sounds/instruments/samples/effects/etc for a particular need. I’m very used to this sort of contextual search from so many other content management tools, so there was immediate satisfaction on this one.

Installation and authorization was a breeze and as a Standard user, I’m grateful that the beta ONLY unlocks elements of Live that will be available in Standard for the final v12 release. That way I can (cautiously) do production work in the beta without forgetting and accidently incorporating something from ā€œSuiteā€ that would only be disabled later, maybe forcing an upgrade that I don’t need.

So far, so good. Going to slam out some new bass house stuff this long weekend and see how it fares, both from a workflow/stability perspective and using the new v12 tools I now have in my arsenal.

Yep, having played with the Beta, this is my favourite thing. I used to have (and still do) a mish mash of packs made by Ableton, and also 3rd party packs from SfM, F9 and kits converted from Maschine expansions/packs. I can now tag these and browse them together, which is kinda neat. With 12 arriving I’ve resolved to slowly move towards more Live native tools, but it was always a hassle managing sounds. Yet one of the biggets benefits of Live is the unified structure and interface, and for me this unlocks that a step further. I hope that with a bit of work, I can have a nice little work station and slowly work towards being more self-contained, with less frequent supplementing with VSTs.

Essentially, I’m still using 11, but spending a bit of time on 12 prep so that when v1 comes everything is organised and ready to try projects.
