Does anyone know if it is possible to combine searches in the browser, e.g. Ableton effects and vsts from a given producer, and then save that search in the browser on the left hand side for quick reference?
I find the whole go back to previous search, not very useful if you can’t see what those searches were and them not having a name. Is it just me?
You’re probably better off using a collection for that, unless you set up a keyboard macro with a device like the Stream Deck. I use my Stream Deck with a multi-action to search for something specific and load plugins automatically. Still getting used to it but it works like a charm.
The problem is that there are limited collections. What I’d like to be able to do is quickly save combined searches, that might be useful for a particular project I’m working on, say a few tracks or whatever, and then simply discard them at a later date. Or better still be able to save them for recall and docking at a later time, if necessary.
I Love 12 so far. The MIDI generator and tweaking tools are fantastic. They’re so good that I’m no longer missing my step sequencers. In fact, I’m considering sequencing the DN from Ableton.
When they add these tools to the Push it’s going to be amazing.
I also like the new expanded keyboard shortcuts, and that 12 brings a ton of Push 3 features to the Push 2.
I think these new midi generators for both rhythm and melodic stuff will be a game changer for me when working entirely in Ableton and just on my laptop/trackpad.
To me it seems like a big leap for Ableton as a laptop groovebox and i’m juiced for it!
Thanks for this. The search is close, but it seems tags at the same ‘level’ are mutually exclusive, e.g. I can’t have ableton and vst selected under format, which seems a strange limitation. Hopefully, they will fix that at some point.
Yeah it’s tricky to say, but I think one thing that should be possible now (and previously not with VST3) is the ability to have global categories for FX and instruments, broken down however you like. I am having a look at Logic and the plugin manager way of splitting things into MIDI, FX and Instruments is quite intuitive, and could help make those big lists more manageable.
Oh wow, are they actually going to implement the piano roll midi generative and transformation tools to the Push ?
These tools are so amazing, you can do that with VSTs but it’s a whole other thing to have it directly implemented into the piano roll. These alone are worth the upgrade IMHO.
I’m with you on this, I usually use my hardware sequencers to generate ideas but the live tweaking is so good with these midi tools that I only do that these days. It’s so much easier.
In fact I worked only with Bitwig for a few months but now I start again to work with both, creating a project with Live for the ideas and then open it in Bitwig to go on.
I’m enjoying Live 12, but at the moment I can’t see any of the new instruments or effects
It’s very strange, have a similar issue with packs, installed them, and they are in the correct folder on my mac, but Live’s browser does not show them.
it would be a bit bonkers if they didn’t! I imagine that’s on the roadmap. would turn the Push into one of the coolest external midi sequencers around.
