Ableton Live 12

I really like all these generative and transformative midi tools. I just wish they were available on Push. That would be really fun. But I suppose that is why I bought Fors Dyad……

I have wondered about this, especially since you cannot map the parameters for MIDI Transformers/Generators and they definitely don’t respond to the blue hand either.

They can be cool, but it is a lot of clicking and mousing around.

When you use these fornl example, the navigator, does it stay in scale? Or you need to manually move the notes?

Hi people of Ableton. One question:

I have an oxi one and I mapped a drum rack with the oxi. I’m sequencing some patterns but while sequencing the cells of the drum rack are changing continuously and I can’t tweak any parameter. I need to stop playback.

Is there any way to make static the cells while playback? . The external steps on the oxi are triggering that cells and I can’t do nothing.

Thanks

there’s a tiny arrow on Drum Rack that dictates whether triggers ‘follow’ and bring up the macros for most recently triggered cell - deactivate this for manual control. Is this what you mean?

Mapping MIDI parameters and OSC messages without a computer is possible with the P3SA with third party M4L devices.

Ableton Suite (edu version) is now also available to buy via rent to own rather than only outright.

OK Ableton experts here’s another question. When I export my tracks to Ableton from MPC Software, obviously the tracks don’t have any inserts (plugins) any more. For the 50 tracks, I manually add Utility, EQ-eight, Filter etc. Is there a way to select multiple tracks and add multiple plugins (or at least one plugin) at once ?

If there’s a device or group of devices you tend to use on every audio track, add them to an empty track, right click the track and select an option near the bottom of the list that says “save as default audio track”. This way every time you create an audio track it will contain that (or those) devices.

If you go with several devices, and cpu is a concern, have the devices be off when setting the track as default, so the devices will be there but you can decide to turn on the devices as needed

Thanks let me try and get back to you. Because I export my MPC project as Ableton Live Set. Let’s see if it works.

Oh, they won’t have those baked in, then. But you can just create new audio tracks (control T 50 times rapid fire ) and move the stems in one sweep after selecting them all with control A

So this is how an MPC project looks when exported. The number of tracks comes from the original MPC project. Then I just drag them as seen in the video - which I couldn’t upload here… I provided screenshots. I guess I should ask for this feature to add one or multiple devices to an existing project.
I know I am like one of the 10 people in the world with a workflow like this but may be it’s needed for other purpose too.

Three track MPC Software project exported as Ableton set. So Ableton file only opens with the number of tracks from the original file.

Yeah I’ve done the .als export, but I stopped using that feature precisely because I got my live template customised to my workflow and the mpc .als of course won’t have my template baked in, so now I export the audio stems instead, or, an alternative which I’ve also tried and also enjoy is what @djst does which is using the mpc vst to bring projects into live, for which I have a live template set up with the mpc plugin and the channels already routed and ready to go, but which I temporarily stopped using since moving to mpc3 given that the v3 plugin is still not available for it, but I digress… the point is I reckon the feature is useful but not useful for my particular use case, and by the sound of your comments, it appears to me that you’d also benefit from a different approach, bro

I pretty much produce most of the tracks in MPC Software so I don’t think I will give up on it. But yeah I do use it as a VST plugin too. Especially when I don’t like something during mixing or if I think it needs more instruments, layers etc. I use it. But exporting just stems is a good idea! I may just do that and then drag them to an existing template. Thanks!

Oh I never meant you should stop using the mpc  I only meant the mpc .als export!

Got it. Sorry for the confusion  To be honest, if I was starting from all over again, I would go with Ableton of course and want no part of MPC Software. Too late now as I have my own thing going on in MPC Software, and I love it. I did produce many tracks exclusively in Ableton too.
