Ableton Live 12

Can someone help me out regarding the MIDI CC workflow in Live?

I want to use Live to record/play CC automation for hardware synths but it’s kind of clunky and I wonder whether there’s a better way.

So here’s an example: I am playing live and recording knob automation from my synth, the Super 6, into Live. So far good, but now I have some questions:

  1. The CC data gets recorded directly into the MIDI clips and does not seem to be accessible from Arrangement view directly, only via clip view?
  2. There’s no way to rename the CCs into meaningful names (something like an “instrument definition” in Hapax or similar)
  3. There’s no way to override CC automation like there is with built-in automation? When there’s CC data in a clip and I move the knob being automated on the synth, the CC data is not muted like with regular automation.
  4. The CC Control device seems to be the answer to some of these, but there’s no way to record into it? Unless you map it via the standard Cmd+M thing, but then it’s per-track, so you can’t duplicate it or move to another project.

Anyone has any ideas regarding how to go about this? Maybe I’m just making it more complicated than it has to be? Surely the workflow for MIDI CCs can’t be this bad in one of the most popular DAWs in 2025…
