Good afternoon all,
Noob question: I just bought a multimoog and I want to use the A4 to control it. It looks like there are CV inputs, but there is also S-Trig which I am not familiar with. Can the A4 control S-Trig?
Cheers,
Ben

Yep.
Thank you, do I just need a S-Trig to 1/4" Jack cable?
I’m not sure what the S-Trig input is on your moog (1/4"?). In basic terms, you’ll want to split the stereo output into tip and ring. Then you just assign the tip or the ring to S-TRIG and plug er in to your moog. You can also adjust the voltage that it trigs. I think standard is +5v which is probably what the A4 defaults to if I remember correctly.
Biologik, you are awesome. Thanks for your quick response.
When you have more time (or if you’re not comfortable opening something up on your own, when a friend has time), you can wire a single transistor to the trigger jack and make it accept regular low to high triggers like most other gear. It takes less than a minute to solder, and removes the headache of having to make specific settings when using a Moog product.
Unless (I never had a Multi, so I don’t know) it has the plug style trigger jacks they put on some Moogs back in the day. That’s a little more work to change.
Are there trigger inputs for each voice? That would be awesome.
Thanks for your reply Tedopon. It’s currently being serviced, so now is the perfect time to look at that mod.
The back panel is 4x 1/4" jacks for filter, osc a/b, audio in and mod effects. In addition there is the one S-Trig.
In theory could the S-Trig port be replaced by a 1/4"?
Yeah I did it with a Micro back before the internet was all that useful…I think I just chopped the wires off the back of the S plug and wired them trial and error until it worked. Pretty sure I had to drill a hole in the chassis for the jack. If I were doing it today I would probably just replace the plug slot with a piece of metal and drill into it instead. Twenty years ago I didn’t care much about how it looked as long as it worked.
There are instructions out there somewhere. Later if I have time I’ll look in the usual places and see what I can find. I don’t have either of the ones I converted over anymore so I can’t refer to those.
Here’s a bunch of info, including links for a 1/4" to S-trig cable if you need one: http://www.synthesizers.com/gates.html
just remember that the A4/AK needs to be split into tip and ring first.
I found a schematic in the multimoog manual for a break out box that converts cv to s-trig. The guy that’s servicing the multimoog is going to quote me to build it. No re-wiring of the moog needed
Simple 1/4" y cable and a 1/4" s-trig cable will do the trick! Thank you for all the info that was provided.
