My name is Igo and Im 34. I just got my A4 yesterday, which by the way is my first analog synth that Ive owned.
So far I love it, but during my first A4 sessions I`ve encountered a couple of issues that I would like to solve with your help.
1.) I know how to switch portamento on/off but I cant find any parameter that changes the portamento speed when playing notes manually. Am I missing something? 2.) Can you hear any difference between Oscillator Drift turned on and off? I cant find any audible difference between these two modes.
3.) When AM1 or/and AM2 turned on, what parameter is responsible for modulating the AM frequency?
Im terribly sorry if my questions seem too basic. A4 is my first real hardware synth and I feel I havent figured it out completely yet.
2: If you have both oscillators set up the same way and turn up the volume of oscillator 2 you should be able to hear the difference between osc drift turned off and on!
As for your other questions I’ll pop in later and reply (but I’m sure someone will beat me to it)
I didn’t play so much with Portamento, but I believe (if I remeber correctly) if you change in OSC2 second page the SLI (slide) you can achieve Portamento time changes.
Keep BND at zero.
Also I can hear differences with Drift also with one oscillator only…
About AM…mostly depends on OSC’s frequency and PW…try to tweak those when setting AM interactions.
Tried it today, don’t think that’s the one…
Aha, correction yes it is but it only works if you check the ‘Sound Settings’ options for portamento - off, on, legato. Working nicely now.
Hey, im revitalizing this thread about portamento, as im having issues with it.
I have created a patch i like, but it should have more glide between the notes. I want a classic two octave switch between to E notes, and i need the glide between the two to be a specific speed. Quite basic
I do this easily with other analog synths, and normally I can understand the behavior quite fast. Take the ms-20 i.e, your turn the portamento, and the more time you add, the longer the glide is. But on the Analog (Keys in my case) the slide time is behaving differently.
For the slide time to work at all, i need to adjust the bend depth. If not, the slide time knob does nothing. However, when i use the bend depth, it does something else. It bends each note, and not the glide between the notes.
This is something i have been mind-boggling about for a while, hence this post.
At the moment im testing Overbridge. See attached screenshot for the preferences im talking about…
(btw, legato and portamento ON doesn not effect the problem)
It sounds like you’re trying to apply the portamento effect to a sequenced performance. If so, you must enter Note Slide mode (Function + Note Slide) and highlight the trigs (steps) of each track where you want the portamento effect to be heard. Leave Bend at zero.
(If you mean you’re not hearing the effect, even while playing notes in realtime, I’m not sure what the issue would be.)
yeah that could probably work. I havnt tried that. But still it just partly fix the problem. If i want to play live, og use midi notes to sequence something, i dont have the slide trigs to help me. If its not possible to do it any other way its a weird choice from the Elektron guys…
