A4 octave control changing with pattern when I don't want it to

Hi all,

I recently took the plunge with an A4, though I’ve had an OT for a while so not a total newbie. Even so, this may be a bit of a newbie question but it’s really baffling me…

I’ve got a song going that runs across five patterns. The first three tracks are set up to play a single sound polyphonically, and I’m playing a chord sequence that changes slightly with each pattern.

The fourth track is for a mono synth lead. What’s throwing me is that when I’m performing this lead using the built-in keyboard, the octave keeps shifting to a different position when a new sequence starts. It seems like it’s taking it’s cue from whatever the chords are doing on the first three tracks. But I don’t want it to suddenly shift up or down an octave while I’m playing on this track - I want it to stay in the same position. I can’t work out why it’s doing it, so I don’t know how to stop it doing it. It’s not an issue if I’m using a midi keyboard, just the built-in keys.

Can anyone help?

Also, hello everyone, this probably won’t be the last you hear from me…

Hi, welcome to the forum. I don’t have an A4 so my knowledge about it is pretty limited (meaning there is probably an easier way to do this which someone will hopefully chime in with) but I think you can key mapping to manually shift the octave (like, within the multi mapping edit menu, you can set the octave and play the correct notes) so there’s probably a way to use that in order to work around the behavior which you’re encountering.

Take note that (from what I’ve read) it only works like this when you are in the edit mode and I don’t know how it works across multiple patterns, but I imagine that it adds a relative anchor to the internal midi keyboard which it can pivot from as opposed to following the rest.

Keep in mind, I’m only guessing here so you have to check out the manual for info on multimapping and try it out if you want to. I do know that the multi map edit mode allows you to do something similar with A4 under different conditions, but I don’t have an A4, and I can’t confirm that it works for what you want to do or that it’s the easiest way to do it.

Good luck

I found that it’s jumping octaves because of “Chain” ON
