I’m new to A4 and have a problem. Sometimes when I’m changing parameters, the last parameter jump to the same setting as the previous I was changing, and they are changing in unison. Why is this? It doesn’t seem to in macro-mode.
Thanks for your help!
Bananeter.
P.S I have the latest OS version.
In all windows… If Im changing the resonanse parameter, then jump to the oscilator window and change the tuning parameter, sometimes both parameters is getting tweaked. It doesent seem to matter witch window Im in. :S
It can be a real pain as I often can’t remember what I was tweaking prior, especially if it’s on another page so I don’t see it changing as I tweak something else. Therefore I don’t always know what parameter has inadvertently changed so I have to revert to my last saved patch/kit which is annoying.
As soon as I notice it happening I change the MIDI set up in my DAW (Live) on the A4 channel from ‘all ins’, to just the specific controller I want to use at the time (or none if I don’t need to use a controller), and it fixes the problem. Very strange, but clearly some MIDI issue!
It also has something to do with sending MIDI notes from my DAW to the A4, as it only happens if i’ve sent MIDI notes to the track at some point in the session, but even then it’s unpredictable if it will do it or not.
The issue seems to happen most often if i’m quickly jumping between parameters. For example, quick changes to filter freq and resonance typically give rise to the issue.
I can almost always reproduce the bug by setting MIDI to ‘all ins’, have my DAW send MIDI notes to the A4, then quickly changing two different parameters on the A4. (It only happens on parameter pages, not on the performance/arp/note page)
I think both of you might have some sort of MIDI loop going on, although it’s possible that it’s also a bug in the A4. Banananeter, I want to help but I really need more detail about your setup, like how are you connected to the computer (if you are) or other gear, is it always on the same channel or even when you switch channels and so on. I get the symptom but I don’t know enough about your overall configuration to know for sure.
I realize that typing out all the details of your setup is time consuming but without that information I can’t tell you what changes you need to make. It’s not a common problem.
Assuming this problem is not occurring when using the A4 standalone i.e. MIDI and USB disconnected, then it’s likely some MIDI data is being sent from Live (or echoed from the A4 “thru” Live).
You could try using a MIDI monitor app to spy on the output. On a Mac there is MIDIMonitor by snoize:
You will see what controller messages are being sent to the A4, that might provide a clue.
I would guess that some MIDI CC data is being captured by Live (or has been created some other way by accident), and then sent on playback but it’s just a guess.
Another possibility is if there is a MIDI controller connected - it could be sending additional MIDI data you’re not aware of, and it’s being echoed to the A4 MIDI port.
Thanks alot for the replies! I’m using ableton. When I disconnected the midi out, it seems to work fine! So I guess the issue as mentioned was some sort of a midi loop. Thanks
