A4 and subphatty keyboard question

So i currently have a midi keyboard running to my A4 and a minitaur and werkstatt being controlled by CV. I would like to replace the wekstatt with a sub phatty or slim phatty. The slim would obviously fit right in and i would still control with the midi keyboard but wondering if i could kill two birds with one stone and get the sub phatty and remove the midi keyboard from the mix. my question is can the sub phatty keyboard bypass the its own synth when playing the other tracks? or how does that work?

Hey there! I used to have this exact set up and it works a treat!!! Yes you can just use the keyboard as midi controller for the a4 and also control the sub phatty synth engine via cv!! And it really does work excellently! Also all of the sub phatty nobs transmit data, but are obviously not like for like with the a4, so you can just choose not send and recieve. I think that is probably the best way.
I have to say, it’s an actual killer set up and one that I really miss. I sold my sub for like 600 eur. And all of a sudden the new price sky rocketed up.
I would definitely not hesitate in buy a second hand one again.

Also may I say, if you add a beat step to this set up it makes it even better. Basically you program the beatsep to send all the ‘hidden’ commands to the sub phatty. Such as keyboard activated/deactivated. Filter 4/2/ pole. And whatever else really.

The sub also makes great analog drums!

Awesome, thanks for the info! I have a slim phatty on back order but might just have to change to sub phatty. I read people liked the controls of the sub phatty as they are more direct and less menu based which makes it easier to build sounds and understand what is being adjusted. Have you used the slim phatty? how would you compare them? I definitely prefer the most straight forward approach to building sounds (love the minitaur).

Right, I can compare the slim phatty, the little phatty se2, minitaur and the sub phatty aaaand my voyager old school (and a Taurus 2  )
Honestly the sub wipes the floor with the slim, the little and the minitaur.
Also I found calibrating the sub phattys cv a lot easier than any of the others. There are a good few button ccombinations to get used to with the sub, stuff like changing the keyboard to control the sub or the a4. Also changing filter poles and stuff. There is honestly so much you can do with the thing.

My only thing I didn’t really like about the sub was the actual width of the synth. (not amount of keys… The other side) it takes up a lot of desk space. No more so that the little phatty, but I thought I would be great if it could of just been a little smaller. Still, not a bad complaint. O would jump on the chance to get one back.

The size and cost are the only things keeping me on the fence. Its so big relative to the slim phatty for only giving you 25 keys (and i already own a decent midi keyboard. On the other hand, i dont need that many presets and i do enough menu diving on the a4. You’ve confirmed everything i’ve been reading though. Thanks!
