Hi there! I’m really immersed to learn how to use at the best my A4. I’m thinking… I’ve an Roland JV-1080 synth rack in the “dust”. What’s the best method to control this great module using my A4? I know that around there’re few CV>MIDI converters (like doepfer A-192), but my question is, make sense? If not, I can sell the JV and I wish to buy some kind of “box” (not eurorack) to extend sonic and feature range. But, second question, what “box”?
Mother32 and pretend it’s not eurorack.
The minitaur is an awesome synth but the cv setup is a pain.
Otherwise, I think there’s an ad for that cv converter box in the sell section of the forum. But my opinion is that making music is complicated already and middle steps take the fun out of it.
My suggestion would be the Make Noise 0-coast. You can sequence it from either CV+gate or from Midi. Also works as a converter between the two worlds. (Also can accept sequencing from both CV+gate and midi simultaneously)
The sonic palette of this thing is nuts. Its a very reverse approach to synthesis if you compare it to the synth voices of the A4 (most notably it has no filter). Also the oscillator sounds quite a bit different than the DCO’s of the A4 so I find they mesh well together. There’s waveshaping and FM (in a few different ways). It is just one voice, but I’ve had two different sequences playing on it because any of the circuits can oscillate and be synced to keyboard. Also since it can accept midi on two separate channels you can play two distinct sequences simultaneous for very basic multitimbrality. Check it out I’m stoked on mine.
hahaah I realize after reading your post a second time I sort of responded in a very convoluted way I guess the reason I mentioned it is that it both does new sounds, and also works as a converter between midi and eurorack worlds.
Yes there is no polyphony unfortunately and no patch saving. I’m looking for a replacement for my A4 right now. Something like Deepmind12 or Rev2 or OB6. I want polyphony but deep sound design. I’ll miss some things on A4, but I am starting to make and remake the same sounds over and over because my brain/ears only takes subtractive synthesis so far with the layout and menus of A4.
Yeah, my dream too…My A4 was second hand purchase, and I just would to reuse my JV-1080, or buy something like Waldorf Pulse 2 (only CV out) or Audiothingies Minimonsta (no CV at all).
