When my CF card got corrupted one of the things that would happen is that when I saved a project and then reloaded it (and that includes powering down and having the last state reload from the card next time I powered up) the rec1/rec2 settings on track one would be moved to track 5 and track 1 would now have its record settings changed to random values. It didnāt cause the exact situation youāre having but it did some similar things (and I first noticed it when I loaded a project template I had been using for almost a year and suddenly couldnāt get any sound from track 1 anymore). Reformatting on the Octatrack didnāt fix anything (starting a new project, changing some settings, and then saving it and reloading it would still end up with some of the parameters and sequence data being different than they were when I saved, sometimes in ways that broke the project comletely), but reformatting with a dedicated CF card formatting program on a PC did and Iāve been using the same card with no more issues for another 3 years and counting. All of the projects that were on it before I formatted were corrupted, though, and I couldnāt save anything that hadnāt been backed up already.
Hopefully you arenāt having an issue like that but if you canāt find any other cause itās worth investigating.
Donāt let your CF cards get too cold (about -20 celsius for two hours, in my case)!
EDIT: Iāve never heard of this happening to anyone else but it absolutely was the case for me. Spent an entire weekend troubleshooting it. Some projects would give errors about corrupt pattern data, some wouldnāt load at all, some would crash the OT entirely, but most of them would load and appear normal but would have parameters and sequences umbled around. Weirdest thing Iāve ever seen corrupt media do, I would never have thought it could change the data around without making the file unreadable if I hadnāt seen it myself.
