I have a fantasy of sitting at my music desk, and vocalising into it, and mucking around with the sounds in the OT (or maybe Max.)
I want it to be sort of small, so that it doesn’t get in my way. Either something that I wear on my ear, or one on a stand (one that looks like this) that I can lean towards and make noises into.
The catch is that I sit between my monitors, and I don’t want it to feed back.
Maybe a little field recorder? Added bonus is that you can take it with you and harvest sounds outdoors. I use my M10 for scratch vocals all the time, sounds a bit crappy because the mics are omni but also quite ‘alive’. Nice rubbery sound on acoustic guitar too.
Hey @nfim! Thx for your reply. Actually I already have a PCM-D50 that I love you can hear some ocean sounds from it in my profile!
I’m interested to know if there’s a type of mic that I can comfortably put on my music desk between my monitors and my face, without worrying too much about feedback… I may be wishing for the impossible
I’m not familiar with newer podcast-centric microphones, but an Electro Voice RE-20 is a broadcast industry staple that has excellent rear/side rejection which sounds perfect for what you’re looking to accomplish. Thom Yorke uses one in the Radiohead ‘From the Basement’ videos on youtube if you want to hear one in a room full of other noise.
BUT - you’ll need a preamp with a 1/4" out to drive the mic and to connect to the OT. And I would nab a desktop boom stand for it as well.
I do a similar thing with the mic that came with my Novation Mininova, for the vocoder in there.
MicroKorg will have a similar mic.
Other than that, any reliable dynamic mic (dynamics don´t feedback that easily unless you point the mic at your speaker) like the good old SM57 or SM58 would do the trick I suppose.
