A Lush sounding Synth needed

FM synthesizers like the Digitone are more famous for creating bellish, wooden, or percussive tones rather than lush pads. It’s not excluded to create pads, but I would check it out, whether those would be lush enough

The Novation Peak could be a good candidate, though.

As no one has mentioned it before and as you are already familiar with the Elektron workflow:

Analog Four

Analog four over the Novation Peak? As the peak is 8 voices and lots of cross mod and effects too. I’m unsure about the analog four but wouldn’t rule it out.

Yamaha CS-80m

It sounds great, it has the Elektron sequencer, it has CV-out etc etc

I didn’t want to put it above the peak, just saying it’s a considerable option. Pros/Cons to take in account, of course.

As for all Elektron units, it’s the combination of the sound engine and the sequencer, which gives us the magic.

Unfortunately the A4 has 4 voices only. The VCOs are very defined. This makes not for a first candidate for lush evolving pads. The sequencer wouldn’t be much of a help for this too.

It’s possible, I have done pads too on the AK, but it would not be my first choice, if a sound shall evolve, have much depth and some pixi-dust on top.

I second this. 0-coast sounds like a swamp (a mesmerizing one, but still, a swamp).

I don’t think any of the modern semi-modulars currently on the market can do something that I would describe as lush. Maybe Pittsburgh’s SV-1.

If you can make do with a mono-synth, I would recommend a Monologue. It sounds very clear – but can still sound warm – and you can do a lot with it. And it is a steal. The mini can do what you ask as well.

If space is an issue, the digitone does pads very well. The filters are surprisingly good. Can sound very vintage with a little bit of detune.

already mentioned, the jv1080 rompler synth from Roland is cool, also the similar 880 now ridiculously economical in comparison to the original price new.
would pair nicely with a Roland pro series midi controller keyboard.

having realtime control using a bunch of pots and sliders, of the parameters would be sweet.

not sure if this soundset is part of the original 640 patches or some kind of extra cartridge with extra waveforms and meta data.

We seem to have similar tastes in gear. First the QY-700 and now this.

I have six Elektron boxes, but when I want some lush pads or digital hi-freqs in my productions I turn to my Roland JV-2080, which is a perfect supplement to my Elektron-diet. Thinking of buying another one, maybe JV-1080 or an XV-series synth. Collecting the expansion cards for them is also really addictive.

actually the Roland xp80 is a cool and undervalued rompler keyboard synth with the jv1080 engine onboard … also the option for expansion cards. very cool keyboard, quality keys. at least i thought so ten years ago anyway.

all this talking about lush sounding synths reminds me to start reading the OB6 manual and start designing patches.
it’s an expensive synth but i’m renting one for about $49au per week, with a discounted purchase option at the completion of the 12 month rental.

Peak will do luscious pads all day long. The reverb is lovely. My favourite for sure.
For FX I just got an Eventide H9 Max. My Bass Station II sounds wonderful through it! Getting MS20 type sounds now, very cool.

cheap and cheerful:

fairly economical last time i looked, vintage 74 small stone.
the version that looks like this:

and talking of guitar pedals, this may or may not be useful for immediate lushness sound design:

I had both the chorus and the phaser. But for guitar.
The superchorus was my first guitar pedal actually

That sounds perfect I think the combo I’m looking for.

yup i enjoyed both of those pedals with a range of Stratocasters. Lovely.

that Small Stone version is absolutely lush isn’t it? so cool and usable for a one-knob wonder.

also the Boss digital delay was a great pedal in its day, and most likely still is.

Yep … send a pitiful sound to the Eventide H9 Shimmer-Reverb … and get something surprisingly good from it. I have seen this be done with some very cheap and simple sound source and it was amazing. Send a high quality sound to it and it will be overwhelming.

I’m really loving the H9. So far only my BSII has gone through it (which I love) but I’ve lost hours already with the combo. Really amazing results.

The 0 Coast is about as non-lush as you can get
