Yo gang. Dont want to resurrect the (brilliant) Qu-Pac vs Apollo dilemma I had from a few months ago. I’ve decided to keep the Apollo.
What do you guys recommend as a good quality ADAT pre-amp to accompany my Apollo? I need more ins/outs and the options I’ve looked at are:
- Focusrite Octopre MK2
- Audient 800
- Audient 880
or…
The very cool Soundcraft EMP8 mixer instead?
xx
I guess you don’t have one of the Apollos with pre amps?
I have a silver Apollo Quad with TB (8ins/outs) but im in need of more inputs/outputs. So i was thinking about a second Apollo (which would be ideal but expensive), or something like an Audient 800 to connect via ADAT lightpipe.
The alternative (and cheaper) solution would be to buy a little mixer, route 4 instruments through its channels, and route its ouput into one stereo input on the Apollo.
The Apollo solution is most elegant but also the most expensive and I dont need the DSP. The ADAT solution would be very useful and cheaper allowing me more extensive mixing capability using Apollo’s Console 2.0 software. The mixer would be the cheapest solution.
Am leaning towards ADAT and wondering preamps to consider… id like some pretty neutral but high quality converters
I have a Midas 48XL I use with my Apollo, sounds great. I’d recommend either that or one of the Audient models.
Don’t have a clue how they sound but don’t those new Behringer units use Midas preamps, after acquiring the brand?
Price is rediculously cheap, could be worth a shot? Specs seem too good to be true

If these use the same converters and preamps than the 48XL then this is a real bargain!
I have to admit the Midas 48XL does look very badass though… Ive never used Beringher products before so will check it out. Focusrite is pretty cheap too if you pick one up used so looking at an older Octopre
