A few weeks away - take Rytm or Digitone?

Hi all,

I am going to be visiting the in-laws next week in China for a month. I’ll need to take something with me for those moments I want to escape but I can’t decide between Analog Rytm MKI or Digitone to take with me.
Which would you take and why?

Cheers,

Ben

DN, smaller…

This is a plus, for sure. Also with DN I have the beta audio driver so can use it with my laptop running Live which I’m bringing as I may do a little work there.

Which one do you prefer to pick up when you’ve got the choice, i.e., at home? I’d take the other one.

I would personally take the DN because:

  • I just bought it and I’m still in that “ooh, that’s cool, let’s explore” phase
  • It seems to be capable of producing a larger palette of synth-ish sound than the Rytm and the rhythmic sounds it can make are enough to give me the skeleton I need to lay other sounds on. As I want to concentrate more on learning about melodic content, the DN seems more appropriate than the AR.
  • Smaller in every sense. This is mainly an advantage when the instrument is used for “those moments when you want to escape”, I feel the focus of the DN makes it a very immediate instrument so the musical reward is immediate and so is the escape. The AR is quite hands on as well but I find the writing/synthesis process to be somewhat more involved with it than with the DN.

Great piece of advice, especially since we’re talking about DN and AR, which almost always guarantee interesting results as a reward for blind exploration. I would not give the same advice if the lesser known device was an OT

Nice thread, i am acutally in the same situation

I tend to pick the digitone because its also good for beats.

But you can also think about which machine you want to explore deeper in the next weeks.

I’m pretty much decided on DN. It’s a really inspiring machine and has the added benefit of acting as a soundcard for my MBP.
