Is there such a thing as a male and female 3.5 mm to MIDI cable? Got my West Pest last night, it came with a 3.5 mm to MIDI just like my Model Cycles did, currently have the M:C sending MIDI to the Microbrute with a regular MIDI cable and the MB sending gate to the Pest. Less than ideal, must be a better way. Realize Model Cycles can be MIDI thru as well but Microbrute doesn’t have a MIDI out, so the M:C has to be the clock, but AFAIK it only sends MIDI (all those Trigs and no Trig out) I guess this is a job for a MIDI splitter, huh?
i just use a stereo jack
Not completely clear on everything you want, but you can get the m:c to send midi notes by enabling ‘mout’ on a per track basis. On the track menu I think.
Yes and yes. A Midi Thru box or something more intelligent seems like a good idea. How intelligent, depends on how many more midi devices you can imagine buying in the short/medium term and on how much you’re willing to spend. The simple ones have the advantage of being relatively cheap, latency free and simple to use. If you don’t mind getting something used, see if you can track down an old Emagic MT4, which can be used standalone as a usb powered Thru/merge box with two inputs/four outputs. Really great, I got two for around 25€ each. Then there are the Blokas Midihub, which can do all sorts of interesting midi transform stuff and something from Retrokits, which I haven’t used but looks really cool.
Lots of manufacturers offer 3.5mm to Midi cables, Arturia among others. Beware that there are two different TRS Midi variants. Some devices are able to switch between them (Elektron M:), most are not.
Like retrokits RK006, sounds like that would fit the bill. I did have the MAFD on my list but idk if i really need that. & i was always interested in retrokits RK-002, I think that can make the MC play polphonic, could be wrong.
sometimes i wish it would just send a pulse so it could sync the non-MIDI gear. Like DFAM or whatever. it can receive clock from other gear through 3.5 mm cable but there’s no MIDI capability. So even though the MIDI is coming through the 3.5 mm cable, need some kind of dongle to get DFAM to sync to MC. But the box is probably the answer i need. Thanks. …
