Dear Elektronauts,
I’m low key proud to share with you my first sample pack. Not only that, I teamed up with our magical @Nils for the demo beats ![]()
The pack consists of a fairly extensive collection of Syntakt sounds, most of which originated from the Syntakt Science Lab challenges, and were recorded through my little trusty Korg Monotron Delay for some extra wobble and hiss.
I was inspired by a Portishead interview I watched online, where Adrian Utley explained how they recorded real drums onto vinyl, damaged the record, and then re-recorded it into old Akai samplers, ending up with a unique world of sounds that had a real “signature” vibe. That idea stuck with me.
Think epic atmos, lots of clang and wub, killer bass and deep kicks, all pushed to the limits of the equipment and my personal knowledge of the boxes. I recorded everything using Digitakt and meticulously named each sample on the machine itself. No compression was used on the DT. The result is a small world of sounds that fit together and carry a certain mood.
The most fun part came afterwards, when Nils agreed to make beats with the sounds and bring them to life. I genuinely admire his skills and everything he posts here, so for me that was the cherry on top of this little project. I’m sure you’ll be curious what he cooked up with the samples, so we each recorded a couple of snippets to serve as a demo for the pack and also as a small beat tape on its own. Thank you again, Nils.
Volume 1 contains 240 free samples, and I have another 240 that I’m thinking of putting out later as Volume 2 for a small, symbolic fee.
I’d LOVE to hear what you think. And I’d also like to say that without this community I probably wouldn’t be doing any of this. Spending last summer tweaking knobs and recording for the Science Labs gave direction and purpose to what is mostly just a hobby for me, and eventually led to this pack.
Enough rambling. Here’s the link to the demo video, as well as the Gumroad link
240 free samples. Drums, textures, tonal fragments and slightly dusty bits. 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, compatible with your sampler of choice.
